Venus de Milo Ekebergparken

Europe

Norway

Ekebergparken is located southeast of Oslo and opened by Christian Ringnes in 2013. The park has amazing sculptures as well as over 40 species of nesting birds, a farm, and wild animals.

Among the highlights:

Venus de Milo auz tiroirs Salvador Dali a surrealist artwork of a bronze Venus.

La Grande Laveuse Renoir of a woman washing clothes

France

Le Domaine du Muy was opened in the south of France in 2015. It was the answer to the lifelong dream of founder and former art dealer Jean-Gabriel Mitterrand. This is a gated estate open to the public by appointment. The park has an architectural theme.

Among the highlights:

Narcissus Garden Yayoi Kusama with 1,600 stainless-steel sphered floating on the surface of a shallow pond.

The Netherlands

The Kroller-Muller Museum sculpture garden is located in Otterlo, The Netherlands. The park has over 160 artworks and with each season visitors have a different experience.

Among the highlights:

K Piece Mark di Suervo is a bright red steel sculpture

One Richard Serra, a cylindrical sculpture at the end of a sloping staircase among trees

Italy

The Chianti Sculpture Park in Tuscany, Italy was the idea of Rosalba and Piero Giadrossi.

Highlights:

Glass Labyrinth Jeff Saward is an arrangement of green glass walls that visitors can walk through.

Energy Costa Varotso is a monumental stacked glass sculpture that changes appearance depending on the light.

Asia

Japan

The Hakone Open-Air Museum which opened in 1969 was the first outdoor museum in Japan. It is located in Hakone, Ashigarashimo District, Kanagawa Prefecture. The museum has impressively displayed its sculptures among nature.

Highlights include:

Woods of Net an all-wooden pavilion by Tezuka Architects and Toshiko Horiuchi. Children enjoy this sculpture and crawl, climb, and jump.

Symphonic Sculpture Gabriel Loire

This artwork is a steel and stained glass tower with a spiral staircase in the center that can be climbed.

North America

The US

Fran and Ray Stark Sculpture Garden Los Angeles, California

This sculpture garden is located near the entrance to the J. Paul Getty Center. OLIN Studio created a sculpture wonderland with secluded areas for contemplation. The surrounding city views are impressive.

Among the highlights is:

Draped Reclining Mother and Baby Henry Moore.

The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden at NOMA Louisiana

This lovely sculpture garden is located next to the New Orleans Museum of Art. You can enjoy the magnolia trees, winding paths, and natural lagoons. The park has a world-class collection of more than 60 modern and contemporary sculptures.

Among the highlights are:

The Labors of Alexander is a surrealist sculpture by Rene Magritte. A bronze tree stump with roots that appear to hold an axe to the ground.

Tree of Necklace Jean-Michel Othoniel. A massive oak tree is laden with an oversized necklace hanging among the moss.

Storm King Art Center Mountainville, New York

Storm King Art Center is located in the lower Hudson Valley in Windsor New York. It was established in 1960 to showcase paintings from the Hudson River School. The center became one of the leading sculpture parks with over 100 contemporary artworks displayed among pastoral hills by tranquil ponds.

Among the sculptures are:

Endless Column Tal Streeter 1967

In Two Canoe Wangechi Mutu, 2022 is a sculptural fountain with two figures becoming one with their vessel.

Shade Tree Brandon Ndife 2022 is a sculpture embedded with household items beneath a tree

South America

Brazil

Inhotim in Brumadinho, Brazil was created by Bernardo Paz. The park offers a world-class contemporary art collection. There is a lovely botanical garden with rare plants.

Among the highlights:

Viewing Machine Danish artist Olafur Eliasson, an open kaleidoscopic tunnel of mirrors.
