Steven Universe Yugioh Deck

Dearest Reader we will be discussing the custom Yugioh deck from the franchise Steven Universe. This show tells the coming-of-age story of a young boy, Steven Universe who lives with the Crystal Gems. A series of magical, mineral-based aliens named Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl in the fictional town of Beach City. The episodic series talks about family and personal growth. This show inspired this deck and each card relates to the characters and concepts in the show.

Steven Universe is the main card of the deck. Similar to the show with the same name, Steven brings everyone together and with the help of his 4 guardians, he goes through life learning about his past, while dreaming of the future all while experiencing the present. This deck utilizes Normal Summoning and fusion with Steven in order to bring out bigger monsters. As you will see, most the strategy is either to revolves around Steven or another card as if to pair with them.

Speaking of fusion, Crystal Gem Garnet is a fusion monster and 1 of Steven’s friends who’s always with him. Providing guidance and safety when in trouble. This card is a fusion monster because a lot of crystal gems are actual fusion from 2 other gems. This one each character has a backstory of how they came to be and garnet is known. Garnet was one of the first gems to fuse with another gem.

Her effect is similar to neos fusion monsters. With the ability to contact fuse with other monsters on the field. She also gives you the temple which helps extend your plays in bringing out your comrades.

Crystal Gem Pearl is more of a thinker and logically uses the information that she gathers to determine the best course of action. By helping Steven (and herself) cope with the traumas of Steven’s past, she learns about herself and becomes an independent gem. Pearl has the ability to add or Special Summon any of her companions to extend your plays.

Crystal Gem Amethyst is a gem that is simply assertive. With great tenacity, she attacks her enemies with force. Her effect just like Garnet and Pearl, is to create the foundation of the board to get the early lead. By bringing the other cards and the temple which allows you to keep your fusions on the field.

Ruby is 1/2 of another card used to summon the fusion monster Garnet. In the show, ruby is known to be the protector or princess sapphire has the effects here to protect sapphire as well.

Sapphire is the 2nd half of the duo with Ruby. In the show, she’s a princess from gem world and she has a team of ruby to protect her. This card and ruby would soon fuse together to make garnet at first, out of accidental care for one another. While ruby protects this card from destruction, this card protects ruby from being targeted.

Crystal Gem Obsidian is a fusion among fusions that don’t require fusion card typing. Only to be used once the main crystal gems are on the field, this card has pure immunity among other effects and once in battle, returns to the deck and returns our materials to the field. Much like the character in the show where after the fusion monster does battle, they return to the ones used to make it. Similar to our “Neos Fusion” counterparts, these crystal gems share such style.

Now Connie Maheswaran is one of the only humans who interacts with Steven the most. From best friend and confidant, to an independent outspoken person with her own gifts. She provides support to Steven as well as gains strength with him around to fight the enemies.

Mr. Universe (Greg) is Steven’s dad at his best. Known as a rockstar who loves playing guitar, he was once involved with a character known as rose quartz. Inherently Steven’s mom and the cause of the story’s plot. This card also gives protection against Steven due to him being Steven’s dad.

Rose Quartz is a monster whom started it all. If you didn’t watch the show, cliff notes, spoiler alert…she stood against the diamonds to bring peace to the realm but made sacrifices to get there. Working being in a relationship with Greg forged a path that became the show we have today. Her effect is like fossil dyna to prevent Special Summoning because she is the center of attention. Though she’s not there for long because of her character, she disappears after causing a scene.

We! Are the Crystal Gems! Is a card that really started the series. It’s because it’s the same name as the opening show. This brought all the main crystal gems together along with Steven and protected them from the enemies they may face. This card allows you to summon the main 4 crystal gems with Steven on the field and gives protection once from your opponent. This card is great for starting one turn wins and setting up decent boards.

What’s a yugioh deck without a fusion a card? Crystal Gem Fusion is like a shaddoll fusion that allows you to fuse with monsters from the deck as well as the hand or field. Like most of the cards in the deck, this card also allows you to recycle the materials by returning the fusion monster.

Crystal Gem Temple is our continuous spell that helps keeps our fusion gems on the field. This card also protects Steven from harm. This is a call back to the early seasons when Steven needed the crystal gems to protect him because he was unable to protect himself. This is also the location where our main four reside.

Crystal Gem Cluster is a card that references the a phenomena called the cluster. The cluster is gem parts that are hidden within the earths core. They were first mentioned in the episode "Jail Break" and first seen the episode "Gem Drill". The card is made to destroy your opponents monster since the cluster reacted when it was in danger. Similarly, it would eventually work with other gems and thus, Special Summon a crystal gem.

The Path of Garnet is a card that closes out the main deck. This card effects allows you to recycle Garnet and summon their fusion materials onto the field. This card also allows you to protect.

We continue the rest of the deck with the extra deck. Crystal Gem Opal is a fusion monsters using Pearl and Amethyst. This card is summoned much like garnet with contact fusion. Contact fusion is the process of sending the 2 materials to the graveyard to conduct a fusion summon. The summoned monster will only stay on the field if there's conditions that can keep it on the field. She has the ability to weaken your opponent by 500. The rest of the fusion monsters operate on the same premise of contact fusion.

Crystal Gem Sardonyx is a monster fused by garnet and pearl. She formed to be more thought provoking in her moves while providing much needed strength. She has a happy go lucky personality while wielding a double sided hammer that can morph into other weapons as needed. Her ability allows you to destroy a monster.

Crystal Gem Steg is a mix between Steven and his dad Greg. This is the second fusion between a gem and a human. Steven experimented the idea in order to provide hope to others through the use of song and in perfect team up with his dad became step. This was known to be an in the moment experience. And just so, this card is one of your draw power for this deck.

Crystal Gem Stevonnie is the other fusion with a human and Steven. Connie has been Stevens human friend and have been a guiding light upon childhood and connection outside of the gem storyline. Together they are a fun loving crystal gem the enjoys life. This card forces your opponent to discard and is able to break through defenses.

Crystal Gem Smoky Quartz is a fusion monsters with Steven and Amethyst. This was one of the first seen fusions amongst the other crystal gems has seen. Acknowledging that Steven can fuse with other gems, let alone humans gave options and ideas to where working together and putting multiple minds together to solve a problem.

Crystal Gem Sugilite is a fusion of Garnet and Amethyst. This monster is a powerhouse. Using their chain like fist weapon among their multiple arms, this card allows you to destroy spells and traps. This character in the show was very aggressive and takes the thrashing approaching to attacking enemies regardless of their power ups, in this case the spells and traps.

Crystal Gem Alexandrite has been the main monster for a while in the series due to the main 3 crystal gems in the show that are to protect Steven Universe from harm and teach him the ways of the gems while traversing to early childhood. This card closes out our deck and finalizes the first part of this Steven Universe custom deck.

When initially making this deck, I wanted to add so many of the characters and concepts from the show and translate them into YuGiOh logic. In a way, it can be potentially playable in the world today. This also is meant for players to learn about the characters and the show as a whole with the intent of watching the show they come from.

In doing so, there will be a second part to this deck. This deck mainly focused on the main four and the small inclusion of cards that help these core four be outstanding. Thank you for reading and look forward to part 2.
