Sorry; not sorry
for Belle's June Unofficial Challenge

Your Honor, please!!! I implore you to gaze upon this fair woman's countenance and arrive at the innocence of her soul.
She meant no harm to her husband that fateful night...her only sin to pick the wrong mushroom added to the soup bowl!
It was his greed which led him to go back for even more of which to partake...as we all know his basic nature was to over-take!
In business dealings he was cruel. And with the opposite sex, one good wife was never enough in his bed...he was indeed a fickle snake!
Just a month before his fatal demise, he took a woman of ill repute to Paris to shop the fanciest of stores...
And while there, it was reported he left the madam alone and ran off to engage himself in yet another house of whores!
And all the funds that brought him to be able to take this low-down trip had come from my client's generous dowry!
There's simply no other way to explain the crudeness of this man and his character, so far from true or flowery.
And, also...Your Honor! He had fired all the household help because of his outstanding poker debts.
He left his poor wife to scrub and clean and cook for months...the man simply had no shame and no regrets!
And when the counsel had rested, giving the most impassioned speech that he could muster,
The Judge found her guilty by means, opportunity, and motives...despite/or because of the Counselor's fiery bluster!

Witty and funny, Shirley! I love the way that this came together, especially in the way that you divided up the lines. AND with a thought-provoking last line. Great touch! Thank you so much for entering, Shirley! The results should be posted later today
I agree! With the verdict! Great entry! ๐!
I hope she gets her hands on the mushrooms in goal. Good one Shirley. Congrats.
Ha! Love this, Shirley. An unfortunate end for her. Hopefully she can appeal or maybe serve the judge some of that soup, lol. Happy belated congrats!
Excellent fun take on the challenge, and it let me know about the challenge

If you don't mind me asking whose unofficial challenge is it - Belle ??? I find it fun these days to enter unofficial challenges.
This is funny but it did happen back in the day. I wrote a series of Delaware True Crime from the 18 hundreds and this could have been a lot of the stories I wrote from my articles, and yes, there was even one who poisoned her husband with mushrooms and she was found guilty too. They were a violent bunch of little darlings back then and now it is just history coming full circle and repeating itself. I laughed throughout this because of language of the times. Nicely Done!!!!
This is great, Shirley. Congratulations on top story
