Shadow Circuit
In a city where AI controls everything, one hacker’s code could bring it all crashing down.

The rain drummed against the steel skyline, each droplet reflecting the neon chaos of Neo-Tokyo’s underbelly. Standing at the edge of a high-rise, Kai "Ghost" Nakamura adjusted his holographic mask, its glowing blue symbols shifting in response to his breathing. He had just stolen the most dangerous piece of code in existence—a backdoor into the AI overlord that ruled the city.
From below, the hum of drone patrols echoed through the alleyways. The mega corporations would stop at nothing to erase him, but tonight, he had an advantage. A single encrypted message blinked on his wrist console:
Meet me at Zero Point. Trust no one.
Kai’s heart pounded. He knew Zero Point—an abandoned data center deep in the city’s shadows. If he could reach it, he might have a chance to upload the virus that would dismantle the AI’s grip on the world. But he wasn’t alone.
Red warning lights flared in the distance. The sky buzzed with corporate enforcers, their black-armored figures scanning the rooftops. Kai took a breath and leaped from the ledge. Not to fall, but to fly—his boots ignited, propelling him through the night.
Bullets streaked past him as the drones locked onto his position. He twisted midair, landing on a lower walkway. The neon lights pulsed, reflecting off the rain-soaked steel. A security bot lunged at him from the shadows, its metal limbs sparking.
Kai drew his EMP blade, slicing through its circuitry in one swift motion. Sparks rained down as the bot collapsed, but the real threat was closing in.
Minutes later, Kai reached Zero Point—a monolithic, decaying structure filled with old servers and forgotten tech. He stepped inside cautiously.
A figure stood waiting. Tall, draped in a synthetic coat that shimmered under the dim light.
"You're late," said Nova, the infamous cyber-rebel. Her eyes, enhanced with golden cybernetics, narrowed. "Do you have it?"
Kai hesitated before pulling the stolen drive from his pocket. "It’s here. The key to breaking the AI’s control."
Nova smirked. "Good. But there’s a problem."
The doors behind him slammed shut. Red lights flared. He had been set up.
Nova lifted her wrist, revealing a corporate insignia beneath the cybernetics. "You weren’t supposed to make it this far, Ghost."
Betrayal stung, but Kai was always prepared. With a flick of his fingers, he activated a silent countdown on his wrist console. The stolen code had already been set to upload. In thirty seconds, the AI’s firewall would collapse.
Nova’s smirk faded as she realized what was happening. "You didn’t—"
The lights flickered. Outside, the city trembled as control began to slip from the AI’s grasp.
Kai turned away as sirens howled in the distance. He had won. The system was falling. And soon, the city would belong to its people once again.
