Massachusetts’ music scene is growing. “Sammy Prez” is adding to the culture!

BIO: Sammy Prez is an aspiring hip hop artist from Lowell, Massachusetts. He was born in Liberia, West Africa. He began writing poetry at an early age. Sammy took his passion for writing poetry and began writing rap songs as he became more interested in hip hop and rap. All in all, Sammy Prez is a hip hop fanatic striving to keep real music alive.

NewWave: “Can you share with us the story of how you got started in the hip hop scene and what inspired you to pursue a career in music?”

Sammy Prez: “I’ve always been a fan of music for the longest time. I remember freestyling with family and friends as a kid. My love and passion for storytelling and meaningful lyrics inspired me to pursue a career in music. Music got me through a lot of situations in life, I felt it was only right for me to give back to others experiencing similar situations.”

NewWave: “Lowell, Mass. has a vibrant music culture. How has the city and its local scene influenced your musical style and lyrics?”

Sammy Prez: “My city and its local scene have influenced my musical style and lyrics by allowing me to be consistent with my work. Our local scene has plenty of artists who are constantly putting in the work and perfecting their craft. When I see other artists working hard to get where they need to be, I am inspired to do the same.”

NewWave: “What unique elements do you bring to your music that represent your city and its culture?”

Sammy Prez: “As an artist from Lowell, Massachusetts I can say that I bring an element of versatility to my music. I come from a diverse city which gave me the experience of dealing with people from all walks of life. Focusing on versatility allows me to represent my city and its diverse culture.”

NewWave: “Your latest album has been receiving positive reviews. What was the creative process behind it, and what message do you hope your fans take away from it?”

Sammy Prez: “The creative process behind my latest project “Prez Season” was a lot of creative writing and freestyling. Many sleepless nights going through beats and writing songs until I felt I got the right records for the project. My message is for fans to just feel liberated when listening to my music. Just want to give fans strength, hope, and spread positivity through my music.”

NewWave: “Collaborations have become a significant aspect of the music industry. Have you collaborated with any other artists from (Your city) or surrounding areas, and how did those experiences impact your career?”

Sammy Prez: “Yes, I have collaborated with Chaz King, L.I.B Jungle, and a few artists from around my way. I received positive feedback from those collaborations, and we are still striving for greatness.”

NewWave: “Many hip hop artists use their music to address social issues and advocate for change. Is there a specific cause or message that you feel passionate about conveying through your music?”

Sammy Prez: “The one thing I am advocating for through my music is for my listeners to have a sense of pride and self-worth. I want my supporters to strive for everything they ever dreamed of and not let anything hold them back.”

NewWave: “ The journey to success in the music industry can be challenging. What were some of the obstacles you faced along the way, and how did you overcome them?“

Sammy Prez: “The biggest challenge I have faced has been being overlooked because I might not have a major buzz like others. Some people who have a bigger buzz may be afraid to work with someone like me because they fear getting outshined. I get past these challenges by focusing on me and how I can improve myself as a musician. I keep perfecting my craft and staying prepared.”

NewWave: “Lowell’s Hiphop scene is known for its diversity. How do you incorporate various musical influences into your work, and how do you maintain authenticity while experimenting with different sounds?”

Sammy Prez: “I incorporate various musical influences into my work by adding some musical styles of other artists I grew to respect. I maintain authenticity by remaining true to my own style, reminding myself that my style is the foundation of everything I do musically.”

NewWave: “Your performances have garnered a reputation for their high energy and engaging stage presence. How do you prepare for your live shows, and what do you enjoy most about connecting with your audience?”

Sammy Prez: “When preparing for live shows it’s mandatory that I light up that inspiration(marijuana) to get me in the zone. Prior to hitting the stage, I give all the glory to God for allowing me to do what I love. After saying my prayers, I’m ready to rock out! I love the similar experiences my audience and I share.”

NewWave: “How do you see yourself contributing to the legacy of Lowell’s music scene, and what do you hope to achieve in your career as an artist from this city?

Sammy Prez: “I envision myself contributing to the legacy of my city’s music scene by just staying true to myself. Not pretending to be something I am not. I also must stay consistent and keep giving listeners quality music if I want to contribute to my city’s legacy. As an artist from Lowell, Massachusetts I hope to become a household name on a global scale.
