A Modern African Tarot
The thirteenth card in A Modern African Tarot invites a radical shift—not in motion, but in perception. Where XI JUSTICE confronts truth and accountability, XII HANGED MAN asks us to release control, embrace stillness, and see the world from a new angle. This card reimagines the traditional Hanged Man archetype through African patience, spiritual surrender, and the wisdom of waiting.

Aetheric Essence
Running, running, running, and crashing throughout the night. Through trees, the bush, and nests where critters dash through the night. Each bush disturbed in a chaotic cacophony in the stillness of the evening air. The rushing rivers were as ponds in your wake, puddles even; negligible. Nigh nonexistent, everything in your sight fell away; as the only two things remaining were you & your path. The world falls away when you're like this; everything becomes a white noise, not a distraction, but another mode of existence entirely – a flow.

Blue water-like shadows curved around her eyes. Light reflections gave the illusion of glass, depth, and movement. It looked surreal, impossible, and strangely emotional.

But the longer I live, the less that idea holds. Art has never taken me away from life. It has taken me deeper into it.

French Impressionist artist Georges Seurat got his artistic education from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. After returning from military duty in 1879, the artist developed a new painting technique called Pointillism. It is a painting technique characterized by the application of small, distinct dots of color to create an image. Seurat displayed his first major painting at the Groupe des Artistes Independants. Unfortunately, his artistic career was cut short by an undiagnosed illness, and he passed away at the age of 31.
