How to Swim
Mastering the Basics and Techniques for a Confident Swim
Learning to swim without any prior experience can be a challenging yet rewarding experience. Before you start, it's important to have someone around to watch over you, especially when you're in the deep end. It's best to learn in a pool or calm lake rather than the ocean, and using a mask or goggles can help you feel more comfortable and less confined.
To start, remember that you naturally float with full lungs, so practice taking a deep breath and curling up in the water. When you feel comfortable, practice kicking and then adding arm movements to propel yourself forward.
Once you've mastered these skills, practice swimming with your head above water until you feel confident. Before moving to deeper water, make sure you're comfortable swimming without touching the bottom and know how to tread water and float on your back.
