the 1970s, computers were large, complex machines used mainly by experInts. But in 1975, two young men—Bill Gates and Paul Allen—had a simple but powerful dream: to put a personal computer on every desk and in every home.
The story began when Paul Allen read about the Altair 8800, one of the first personal computers, in a magazine. He and Bill Gates saw an opportunity. They contacted the computer's manufacturer and offered to create a version of the BASIC programming language for it—even though they hadn’t written it yet. After weeks of intense coding, they delivered the program, and it worked. This marked the birth of Microsoft.
As the years passed, Microsoft grew from a small startup in a garage into one of the most powerful tech companies in the world. A major turning point came when they signed a deal with IBM to provide an operating system for its personal computers. That operating system became MS-DOS, and later evolved into Windows—software that transformed how people interacted with computers.
Today, Microsoft is a global leader in software, cloud computing, and devices like Surface and Xbox, staying true to its original mission: to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.
