By the end of this course, you will learn how to create various types of websites and customize them. We will be using WordPress, and I will guide you through every necessary step. This course is designed specifically for beginners. First, I will demonstrate how to complete the initial setup, which involves obtaining a domain name, securing hosting, and installing WordPress. A domain name is the address people enter into their web browsers to access your site, such as youtube.com or freecodecamp.org. Hosting refers to where your website's files and data are stored. When someone visits your site, those files must be retrieved from a server located elsewhere. A hosting provider is the company that owns the server where your website's files are stored. WordPress is a content management system that simplifies website management. It enables you to build a website without any coding knowledge, meaning you don't need to understand Everything can be done visually with WordPress. It is the most popular website-building platform, powering approximately 40% of all websites, and, best of all, it is free to use. Once we install the WordPress software, I will show you how to set up the installation and tailor it to your needs. Whether you're looking to create a blog, an e-commerce site, or a website for a local business, I'll teach you how to customize it easily. Next, I will guide you through updating the design, ensuring your website reflects your desired style. You will learn how to upload your own images and choose the color scheme that suits you. Now, let's get started with acquiring your domain and hosting. This step will involve a small fee, but it is quite affordable—typically, a domain name costs between $10 and $20 per year, while hosting usually runs around $5 per month. I will also share tips to help you save money in this process. We will use Hostinger to obtain both the domain and hosting, as they provided Free Code Camp with a grant to facilitate this course. Hostinger is known for being one of the cheapest hosting providers with reliable service, and I have personally used them for my websites prior to this grant. It’s important to note that the instructions in this course can be applied to other hosting providers as well, so you are not limited to Hostinger. However, Hostinger offers a free domain, an SSL certificate, and a 99% uptime guarantee. You can visit hostinger.com through the link in the description for a better deal than usual. On Hostinger, you will find options for single shared hosting and premium shared hosting. If you are just starting, the single shared hosting plan is likely the best choice for you. The main distinction to consider is that the single shared hosting plan comes with a free domain, while the premium plan does not. If you choose the premium plan, you can purchase a domain separately for about $8.99, depending on the domain type. For first-time users, it may be wise to select the single shared hosting plan for $0.99 a month and then pay for the domain separately. Keep in mind that the promotional rates may change upon renewal, so it’s crucial to look at the actual renewal price. When you select your hosting plan, you will need to choose whether to pay monthly or commit to a longer period of 12, 24, or 48 months. The $0.99 price is available only for a 48-month commitment, but for newcomers, the 12-month plan is more reasonable. Once you choose your plan, you can complete the payment process and enter your information. If you already have an account, you can log in instead of filling in your details again. After signing up and logging in, you will arrive at the dashboard. If you selected a plan with a free domain, you can claim your domain during this setup or purchase one if your plan does not include a free domain. Next, we will select the setup option under premium shared hosting. After that, you can choose whether you are claiming a free domain, purchasing a new one, or using an existing domain. I will first demonstrate how to claim a domain, but the process is similar for purchasing a new one. I will check the availability of the domain name "robotoysreview.com." You may need to try several names since many domain names are already registered.
