A Vocal Story On A Device
In This Case My Amazon Kindle Fire 10

Introduction
This is something that I had no intention of doing. I once tried writing on a phone in Edinburgh many years ago, but it was so awkward that whenever I am on weekends away I don't bother with publishing Vocal articles until now that is. This was the Edinburgh one:
Once again in Whitby, I failed due to the devices not behaving for me. Most of this was spoken into Google Docs on my phone, then tidied up.
When I tried to comment and edit on Facebook, the app version was awkward and the desktop version kept overlaying the same thing so I couldn't change or save anything and half the time it deleted stuff.
This is my device, great for watching things, reading, playing the odd game, but not for editing.
This is just an attempt at writing on a device.
The one I'm using is Kindle Fire 10. I thought could use the touch type editor but every time I pressed the space bar it deleted everything I'd typed.
On these devices, you type in one letter at a time with a finger rather than when on a PC where you can actually type with both hands and press multiple keys and use the function keys for things like the extended clipboard and things like that. None of that's available on the devices.
One of the things you have to remember is that when you're on a device you've always got to go to the desktop to, in theory, edit a Vocal story.
I know people create and post Vocal STories on their phones on devices but I'm not good enough to actually do that. So if this does get posted before I leave I will have impressed myself but it's not been very easy.
I failed miserably, I am tidying this up on my home desktop computer.
When I get back to my computer I will be writing at the normal speed again so I'm impressed with the Kindle 10. It's like a really big book so I find it easier to read on my phone than on the Kindle.
It is great for video and browsing the internet.
It's great for a lot of things but every time you access Facebook or Vocal. It goes into the app and you've got to select the desktop mode
I installed Facebook and I couldn't access various Facebook groups that I'm a member of so I had to go in via the browser and the desktop and that allowed me to do what I wanted. But again it's when you go back in. You're back in the app mode and you have to reselect the desktop
Conclusion
So I'm not hugely impressed, but I used voice typing to Google Docs then cut and paste.
I thought it would be interesting to see how this turned out. I won't be doing this again unless software updates allow me to do what I want,
I apologise if any of this seems like gobbledegook but that is an issue when you are using voice typing, but it is amazing that I could actually do that. After I had got this into Google Docs, I managed to cut and paste it into the Vocal story but that was it, the Kindle/ Vocal combination would not work for me.
After this, I went into the Whitby Museum in Pannett Park which may result in another story but you can check it out here:
Thank you for putting up with this, I really appreciate it. I have another story that will be with you soon I promise.
I'm glad I am back on my computer for writing. The music is "Hard Times" by The Human League, which is appropriate.

It's so frustrating that your Kindle is so complicated
You are a brave man Mike - actually asking for frustration. I have enough problems with my computer, so I would never tackle something like this on the phone.
I'm impressed you even tried it. I haven't.
I’m glad you’re back on your computer too! Technical issues can be frustrating, it sucks when technology doesn’t work like it should. Like, we spend our hard earned money on these devices for them to work, they should work! I’ve had similar issues!
Trying to do everything on a phone or tablet can definitely be confusing. Props to you for trying though!
To me this reads as a journal entry. Still a good job no matter how it got done.
Interesting. I didn't know a kindle could do all that <3
I like that you experiment with different ways to write, Mike!
