You Ever Think Too Much at 2AM?

When the world sleeps, your thoughts get loud—and you start questioning everything

By LucianPublished 9 months ago 2 min read

At two o'clock in the morning, the sky is as quiet as a piece of glass. There is no sound of cars or human voices outside the window, only the occasional dripping of water under the eaves, as if reminding you that you are still awake.

You turned over, the screen lit up, and the time on the lock screen jumped like irony. It's not that you are not sleepy, but you can't sleep. Your mind is like a switch turned on, and you start to review today's conversation, recall the words that you didn't say last year, and think of someone's sudden departure, or a small thing that can't be changed at all.

You start to wonder if you have done something wrong? Is it not good enough? Should you work harder and find something earlier? You doubt the past and worry about the future, but now, you can't do anything.

What the late night is best at is to amplify emotions and stretch an ordinary moment to infinity. Life that seems to be peaceful during the day seems to be suddenly full of cracks at night. The feeling of "Is there something wrong with me" will quietly sneak into your cracks.

But do you know? You are not alone. There are too many people in this world who are awake at the same time and thinking about similar problems. Some people are chewing over the details of a relationship, some people are regretting a little flaw in their work, and some people even simply feel that they are "not enough".

Perhaps, this kind of night is not torturing you, but reminding you that you care. You care whether you are good enough, whether the relationship is stable, and whether the future is worth looking forward to. Anxiety, doubt, and self-reflection are not manifestations of weakness, but evidence that you have not given up on life.

So please don't blame yourself too much for thinking late at night. He/she just wants to live clearly, is too afraid of missing something, and hopes to be understood.

Maybe you can't think of the answer now, but it doesn't matter. Some problems require a whole morning, or even a few years, to slowly figure it out. All you have to do is be a little more gentle to yourself on these nights.

🕯️ Thank you for reading this. May your nights no longer be lonely, and may your heart be as stable as before.
