World War III
Fiction or is it?
Anne Bernays and Pamela Painter — What If? Writing Exercise for Fiction Writers prompts
The Exercise — Choose a story to work with that is still in an early draft form. Read it through so you are thoroughly familiar with it and with the characters. Then find a place in the story to complete and insert the following sentences underlined below (change the pronoun as necessary.) Then come up with a few of your own inserts.
The Objective - To experience how your semiconscious imagination is capable of conjuring up material that is absolutely organic to your story for each "fill-in" from the above list. Writers who do this exercise are always amazed at how something so seeminly artifical can provide them with effective additions to their stories.
The last few nights, she had a recurring nightmare about what is happening in Minneapolis and St. Paul, coming to the Range.
Her mother always warned her that just because there is unrest in other parts of the country, it doesn't mean it won't find us, and we need to be prepared.
The one thing I couldn't say was that her mother was right. It is affecting us here just as much as if we were there, as our people are being taken under the guise of criminal illegal aliens.
The telephone rang. It was a wrong number, but the caller refused to hang up. (have 5 or 6 exchanges) Instead, she was swearing at me and asking me about "How can you be picking on poor Mr. Trump?" I never said anything to you. I don't know you! She insisted I was the person she was calling, and she said, "I know exactly who I'm talking to. You hate poor Mr. Trump!" You are partially right, as I do think of him as someone who has lost his mind and is too damn old to be in office! She said, "He is doing his best to do the job that needs to be done!" I'm younger than him, and many of my friends are younger, and we could never be in that position. No one his age should be in the White House, the Senate, or Congress, or any higher position in government. He is a lunatic, and what is happening in Minnesota is because our Governor Walz had the nerve to run against him and Minnesota is a blue state. There are so many places he could be with way more criminal illegal aliens... She hung up.
Something seemed different today as I walked out for the day. It was eerily quiet, and I was hesitant to go anywhere.
The last time she had worn this jacket was when we were protesting back in the late sixties to end the Vietnam War.
If someone said make a wish, she would wish for an end to Trump's war on the people, an end to his presidency, and the end of ICE in Minnesota.
Secretly, I collected a few guns from the cabinet.
Outside, it was cold and dreary, a typical winter day.
Suddenly, she remembered she had forgotten to grab her tribal identification and passport.
On the television stand in the bedroom was her identification.
She suspected that she might just need it where they were going.
The smell of sage brought back the time when she smudged with the hippies. It was before her people had religious freedom. The guy said, "It cleans your aura, man!" She decided she would take some smudge with her and smudge before the protest.
As a child, she had learned not to show fear, as that is when they go after you. It sounds like that doesn't matter now, though, as they are going after anyone with brown skin or white. Tackling with 6-8 men on one. Knocking old people down and spraying them with pepper spray.
INSERTS:
My protest sign in high school said, "No more miniskirts, girls should be able to wear pants. Who wants the mini skirts but some old perverts." Girls would have to wear pants to school due to the below zero temperatures and then change before school into skirts. Miniskirts were in style then. They weren't for the girls then, so who were they for? Today reminds me in of back then - time to point out the reality of what's going on.
The message today is that it is such a sad, sad time in my life! I really did expect the world to be a better, kinder place for my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and future generations.
But today, in my seventies, it is not. It was, but not anymore. There is a crazy man at the helm, and brainwashed people continue to follow his lead in a similar way to how people followed Hitler. But that is right, Hitler said he learned his ways from how America treated the Native Americans.
How many people will have to be killed? Someone else was killed this morning. 8–10 ICE couldn't restrain one man or boy, so he was shot several times after being continually rammed in the head. It was all caught on camera and is all over social media.
Will this be the start of World War III?
