wicked witch of the west

A mother drives her son to a theatre he was attending. on the way she told him the story of the girl who played Dorothy in the wizard of oz her son loved the movie, and it might have been the thing that got him into theatre. Although she didn’t know it got him into theatre, she did think it would be a good story to tell as it told a bit of a cautionary tale.

The mother told her son the girl who played Dorothy was named Judy and while Dorothy may have skipped and sang down the yellow brick road with her friends Judy did not. The actors who played the scarecrow, the tinman and the lion were very mean to Judy. They were jealous that a teenager girl had the lead over them, not eat lunch with her and would not speak polite of her to the rest of the crew, they would push her around on the set and stand in front of shots that were made for her, making her scenes take longer if they weren’t long enough already. The director didn’t like Judy much either, because of all the dilemmas with the rest of the crew he thought of her as a bad actor and he would yell at her over the smallest things like giggling or smiley during scenes she wasn’t in. the director also thought that Judy was too big for the role as Dorothy and what seems like extreme measures to lose weight now and even back then he would force her to smoke up eighty cigarettes a day.

the mother now worried that this story maybe wasn’t for kids to hear and maybe be a bad example of what to expect from acting and didn’t want to scare her son out of acting but she didn’t want to stop and not give something good out of the story so she skipped the rest of the bad parts of the story staying clear of the drug peddling producer and the gross little pervert munchkin actors or the snow made out of asbestos and went onto the wicked witch of the west. She told her son that Judy while picked on by all the male actors she did have someone there that did look after her and that was the lady who played the wicked witch of the west, who also had felt miss treated on the set and getting poisoned from green face paint will make you feel that way. The actor who played the wicked witch was named Margaret and she would look after the poor girl while on set and really took her under her wing in a workplace that was truly a toxic working environment. The mother concluded the story as they arrived by saying to her son, something good came from Judy’s torture though, after the movie and many years of hard work later Judy made the acting world a safer place for children just like yourself, in a lot of ways Judy became the wicked witch for a lot of young actors out there and that if you ever feel unsafe or uncomfortable while in the theatre there will always be a wicked witch there nice enough to take you under their wing and protect you. The son didn’t stay in the theatre group for long he didn’t really want to learn lines and stand in front of an audience of adults and children, but the story of Judy did stick with him. Throughout his life he found a lot of wicked witches that took him under their wing, whether it be from teachers or managers even from friends and coworkers there was also one out there in a different environment ready to see him as the Dorothy he was and look after and make the world a safer place.
