Victoria’s Good Taste

It's already in your mind

By Gaille HunterPublished about a year ago 1 min read

There once lived a lady named Victoria who lived in a little town near the marketplace. It was always filled with glorious aromas of baked goods and multicultural cuisine. She was known as the best taste tester for miles around and was asked every month to judge the baking contest.

Victoria loved hats and had the largest collection of beautiful hats that anyone had ever seen. People loved to catch a glimpse of her as she shopped the marketplace. Other ladies studied her hats and tried to copy their design. But Victoria’s hats were always the most splendid indeed. Each time she judged a baking contest she wore a different hat. One day she wore a pink hat and chose the pink cake to be the best.

Another day she wore a white hat and judged the white cake to be the best. Then one day she wore an orange hat and judged the orange cake to be the best. Finally, she wore a silver hat and judged the silver cake to be the best.

No one noticed the pattern until one day she wore a green hat and couldn’t decide which cake was the best. Was it because there was no green cake? That day she called a tie between the blue and the yellow cakes. Another day she wore a purple hat and couldn’t decide which cake was best. Was it because there was no purple cake? That day she called a tie between the red and the blue cakes.

She realized that having two winners was more enjoyable for the townspeople and from then on she always picked two winning cakes. She wondered why the best tasting cake was always the one that matched her hat. She determined that judgments are not always based on what is truly the best. Sometimes it’s based on what is already on your mind.
