Pushpalatha Passes Away: Veteran South Indian actress Pushpalatha, known for her contributions to Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada cinema, passed away at the age of 87. She breathed her last at her residence in T. Nagar, Chennai, after a prolonged period of medical treatment.
Pushpalatha's Journey in Cinema:-
Pushpalatha made a significant mark in the film industry, starring in over 100 films during her career spanning from 1955 to 1987. She gained recognition for her performances in notable films such as Sarada, Paar Magaley Paar, Naanum Oru Penn, Yarukku Sontham, Thaaye Unakkaga, Karpooram, Jeevanaamsam, Dharisanam, Kalyanaraman, Sakalakalla Vallavan, Simla Special, Puthu Vellam, and Ammavum Neeye Appavum Neeye. Her cinematic journey began with Kongunattu Thangam in Tamil, while she made her Telugu debut with Cherapakura Chedevu (1955). She ventured into Hindi cinema in 1963 with Main Bhi Ladki Hoon, directed by A. C. Tirulokchandar, and later made her Malayalam debut in 1969 with Nurse, helmed by Thikkurissy Sukumaran Nair.
In 1963, Pushpalatha played a pivotal role in Naanum Oru Penn, where she co-starred with actor A.V.M. Rajan. Their on-set chemistry blossomed into love, leading to their marriage. The couple had two children, including actress Mahalakshmi.
Apart from acting, Pushpalatha was a Lux soap model in 1964, a producer of two films, and a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. Her final on-screen appearance was in Poo Vaasam (1999), directed by Sree Bharathi and starring Murali, Ramya, and Jaishankar. Following her exit from cinema, she devoted her later years to spirituality and social service.
Pushpalatha hailed from Mettupalayam, Coimbatore. In recent years, she had been battling health issues. Her passing has left a void in the film industry, with fans and colleagues mourning the loss of a celebrated actress whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
