Is it not wonderful how writin', composin' and creatin' on Vocal, allows us to blah, blah, blah as much as we want.

The Trope Parade

Oh, here they come, the tropes we know,

Marching in a tidy row.

"Who are we...well, let's see, they boast

We are the figurative, the metaphorical

the varied uses of your words and utterances...

the words and expressions you employ

to describe your many, many attitudes

towards the self of yourself" Quoth the trope.

The wise old sage, the hero bold,

The twist we always saw unfold.

The villain grins, the sidekick quips,

The lovers share forbidden lips.

But mix them up or break the mold -

A fresh new tale is spun from old!

This be a little ode to the familiar patterns

We see in stories...The Tropes.

How very rude are these so-called Tropes...Methinks!!!

........

But they do have a point, if we really stop to ruminate upon it.

There are times when we become lost in our imaginings, not knowing where to turn. Our tropes present like a frozen tundra under which our psyche is immersed in solid ice. We struggle and push with all our might. It takes everything, every ounce of resolve and physical strength to burst through the self-made prison of our non-creative mindset. We breathe deeply, coughing and spluttering as air engulf our lungs.

But we are free. We did it. We conquered the mountain. Our Metaphors, allegories, analogies, and tropes are alive again...unbound.

Or,

Sometimes we feel like a kite which it's owner has deliberately let loose to the wind and open sky, just to see what happens to a thing untethered. We watch, helpless, as the panicking skybourne entity fights for solid support, an anchor, something...anything to grab unto for dear life. Like us, it searches for a lifeline.

Like us, the kite needs tethering.

I read the story below today in Motivation.

Within the paragraphs of two stories, I found truths to lift my spirits and anchor my mind once again.

Tethering...I am tethering.

......

Michelle Liew's story.

Some stories are subject to interpretation. One sees what one wants to see.

Is it not strange that in the act of supporting others, you can find new stories, new ideas and a little bit of camaraderie in their struggles, advice and wisdom, intended or unintended.

I like the kite story, it is so easy to feel unbalanced...to find the strength to keep going. But we do it, no matter what.

I love getting on the blah blah bus with you, Novel! :)

  • And so now we fools have showered & been told to go fly a kite while unleashing our creativity by tethering it to something concrete. Works for me, Novel.

Well-wrought, Novel! Jung calld them archetypes. Some call them tropes. In some cases, they grow to the size of archons or egregors, and get a little too big for their britches (yes, they become cliches as well!). It all comes back around. To my mind, when we learn to focus more on function than form, and turn that function to fulfill the intentions of a pure heart, we begin to see how they can lead us to the light, and perhaps, how we can do the same for them!

  • This was fun and with a lot of pertinent points and thanks for the shoutout too

The villain grins, the sidekick quips, The lovers share forbidden lips. I LOVE THIS !!!!!!!! I also love how you depict our labyrinthine imaginings. Easy to get lost down that rabbit hole 😁

  • The moment I saw tethering, Michelle's story was what came to mind. Your piece has a lot of food for thought!
