From System Failure to Human Error: My Journey Through Words ✍️

A Writer’s Journey from the Edge of Darkness to the Future of AI.

By Piotr NowakPublished about 10 hours ago 3 min read

Writing, for me, is a process that borders on the magical—the art of precision in word choice, the unfolding of complex thoughts, and, most importantly, the act of creating something out of absolute nothingness. It is a craft I’ve fallen in love with, even though it can be as fickle as it is rewarding. 🌌 My literary journey began with a deeply personal, raw reckoning with my past in the book "404: Reality Not Found", where I chronicled the difficult path from the darkness of addiction back to the land of the living. 🕯️ Today, my pen has turned toward pure fiction—specifically, dark sci-fi set in a world dominated by algorithms: "Human.exe Error 0x000". 🤖💻

I’d like to invite you into my "kitchen" to show you the behind-the-scenes of my writing process. While I don’t aspire to be the next Stephen King or William Shakespeare, the passion that drives me is authentic, deep, and—most importantly—unstoppable. 🔥

Inspiration is Rain, Not a Faucet 🌧️

Many authors talk about iron-clad, almost military discipline: "I sit down at 8:00 AM and write until noon, no matter what." That doesn’t work for me, and it probably never will. My creative process is a fascinating sine wave of extremes. 🎢 There are days when the blank page literally stings my eyes, and I can't put together a single meaningful sentence that stands the test of time. But then there are those moments when I fall into a creative trance, and an entire chapter is born in one go, flowing straight from my mind to the screen, requiring only minor cosmetic polishes later. ✨

Interestingly, inspiration rarely visits me while I’m sitting stiffly at my desk. It’s not like a faucet I can turn on whenever I feel like it—it’s more like a sudden downpour from the sky that falls unexpectedly and without warning. The best plot solutions come when my mind is seemingly at rest. 🧠💤 Sometimes it’s a long walk, during which the characters start talking to each other, and my thoughts naturally lead the story into darker territories. 🌲🚶‍♂️ Other times, a quiet moment on a park bench is enough; just observing the world without thinking intensely about work. Then, suddenly, everything "clicks" and falls into place. 🧩

This is where my little writer’s contradiction appears: on one hand, I claim that writing is the "art of word choice" (suggesting the analytical work of an architect), but on the other, I admit that I have never written anything by force. I simply can't create that way. It has to be an impulse, an authentic need to pour the story out of myself. 🗣️ If the story doesn't want to be told on a given day, I don't force it. I wait patiently until the "Human.exe" system throws the right error in my mind. ⚙️⚠️

From Naive Rhymes to Existential Voids 📜

My literary roots are very human and, I’m not ashamed to admit, at times full of emotional chaos. I took my first steps as a sixteen-year-old, writing a love poem for a girl who stole my heart. ❤️ From today's perspective, those verses might seem naive, but they taught me that pouring emotions onto paper brings relief. 📝

Years later, while living in the UK, poetry returned in a completely different, more mature form. That’s where the pieces dedicated to the woman who pulled me out of addiction were born. It’s thanks to her that "404: Reality Not Found" could even exist. 🇬🇧 She showed me that my experiences have value and can become literature. Without that support and those first difficult texts, the writer I am today wouldn't exist. 🤝📖

Human.exe – Why Do I Do It? 🔋

The transition from autobiographical realism to science fiction in "Human.exe Error 0x000" seems like a giant leap, but to me, it’s a natural evolution. In "404," I reclaimed my reality, which I had previously lost. In my new novel, I explore a reality that may await us all—a world where humanity itself becomes a system error. 🛑👤

Am I afraid of not measuring up to the great masters of the pen? Perhaps. But I know one thing: writing is my new path, and I will certainly not give it up. 🛣️ Words have become my way of communicating with the world and myself. My process may seem inconsistent—from long walks to moments of reflection on a bench, to sudden bursts of creativity in the middle of the night. 🌑🌙 But it is precisely in this apparent chaos that the truth I want to share with you is born.

I don’t need to be Shakespeare to feel immense gratitude for every day that "something from nothing" appears on my pages. 🙏 I invite you to follow the progress of my new novel. It will be a story about errors that aren't worth fixing—because those are exactly what make us human. 🛠️❤️
