The Breakfast Writing Club

An Unofficial Announcement

By L.K. RolanPublished 11 months ago 2 min read

Imagine this: You’re standing under the glow of a dim stage light, palms sweaty, heart racing. The mic lets out a sharp feedback screech, and you flinch. You clear your throat, gripping your paper so tightly it crinkles in your shaking hands. The room is hushed, waiting. You take a breath.

And then, you read.

Sharing your writing can feel like that—raw, nerve-wracking, exhilarating. But this? This is like that, but better.

Because here, you don’t have to stand on a stage or fight off the shakes. You can share your words from the comfort of your home—or wherever you happen to be—with a cup of coffee in one hand and zero fear of the mic betraying you.

I’m thrilled to share that I placed runner-up in the New Year, New Projects Challenge! It’s an incredible honor to have my work recognized, and I’m beyond grateful for this community of storytellers.

But as much as I love winning (who doesn’t?), what I love even more is celebrating other writers. That’s why I started curating a monthly collection of pieces that moved me, and now, I’m giving it a new name:

Welcome to The Breakfast Writing Club

Think of it as a literary open mic night, but with fewer stage lights and more caffeine. A space where writers from all walks of life can come together, share their stories, and maybe be a little dramatic while doing it. Because let’s be honest—writing is drama. And we love it.

Every month, I’ll spotlight stories and poems that made me feel something—whether it was heartbreak, joy, nostalgia, or just that gut-punch of truth only great writing can deliver.

This Month’s Theme: Love, Raw and Unfiltered

February is a month drenched in romance, but love is rarely neat and pretty. It’s messy, painful, euphoric, and transformative. This month, I want to celebrate love in all its formslosing it, finding it, craving it.

If you have a piece (new or previously published) that fits this theme, drop a link in the comments and tell us what inspired you. Let’s turn the comment section into our own little writer’s lounge.

Why The Breakfast Writing Club?

Because writing is more fun when we do it together. Because we’re all just creators figuring out life, one dramatic monologue at a time.

So pull up a chair. Bring your best, worst, or weirdest work. Let’s talk about it.

Dear Vocal Administration,

You see us as you want to see us.

In the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions.

A poet. A novelist. A flash fiction writer. A journalist. A dreamer.

But what we’ve come to realize is that we are all of those things—and more. We are the ones who press “Submit” with shaking hands, hoping our words find a home. We are the ones who tell stories even when no one seems to be listening. We are the ones who keep writing, keep creating, keep finding new ways to say the things that matter.

And thanks to platforms like Vocal, we have a place to do just that.

So maybe we’re not just a poet, or a novelist, or a dreamer. Maybe, in the end, we’re something bigger: a community.

Sincerely yours,
The Breakfast Writing Club

Great idea and Ilike that the subject matter will change every month. love poems ( even ugly and raw) do not flow easily from my keyboard, pen and paper or even thoughts. I will however read as many as I can to support. Congratualions on runner up, truly a great honor

WOOHOO!!!! very excited for this :) here is my humble offering. a breakup and mania inspired this stream of consciousness. a reflection on romantic and platonic loves lost and the attempt to cultivate the self-love necessary to forgive my actions. it is a love letter of sorts and an apology. https://shopping-feedback.today/psyche/the-bipolar-person-7nhe0yyw%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3Cdiv class="css-w4qknv-Replies">
