Short stories from 100 Selected Stories, by O Henry
A T MIDNIGHT THE CAFÉ wa s crowded. By some chance the little table at which I sat had escaped the eye of incomers, and two vacant chairs at it extended their arms with venal hospitality to the influx of patrons.

ONE DOLLAR AND EIGHTY-SEVEN CENTS. That was all. And sixty cents of it was in pennies. Pennies saved one and two at a time by bulldozing the grocer and the vegetable man and the butcher until one's cheek burned with the silent imputation of parsimony that such close dealing implied. Three times Della counted it. One dollar and eighty-seven cents. And the next day would be

An ode to imposter syndrome
An ode to imposter syndrome Self-worth and self-belief are the two sides of the same coin. We all have seeds of self-doubt planted within us, either from our inner limiting beliefs, trauma or negative projections of other people’s opinions. It is hilarious how we place our self-esteem in the hands of others with ease and then find ourselves in the labyrinth of negative perceptions of ourselves or dwindling confidence in our abilities. Life is a paradox, to heal you must be hurt, amid the most massive of pain and breakdown lies the most eminent breakthrough you would ever receive. If you want confidence and faith in your abilities, you must swim through the turbulent ocean of self-doubt and insecurity.

The Last Of The Rupi Kaur's Gratitude Prompts For This Year
Being at the end of Rupi Kaur's Gratitude Writing Prompts disappointed me. At first, I thought I would use one a day, but then I found that writing 3 every third or fourth day was about right for a short story. I have enjoyed these prompts. I will pick up another box of prompts as these were a pleasure to write about.

Shredded soul
The mirror mocks me. It reflects a face etched with lines, not of laughter, but of battles fought and lost. My eyes, once sparkling pools of hope, are now dulled by a weary acceptance of life's relentless blows. I am a tapestry woven from threads of sorrow, each tear a shimmering strand in this symphony of scars. Do you ever feel like the world has chewed you up and spat you out, leaving behind a fragmented mess? Like the very essence of who you were has been shredded, scattered to the wind? That's the constant companion of a shredded soul. The ache is a dull thrumming in your chest, a constant reminder of dreams that turned to dust in your grasp. It's the phantom limb of lost loved ones, the hollowness where joy used to reside. It's the weight of past mistakes, pressing down on you with the crushing force of a collapsing star. We walk through life, collecting these scars, each one a story etched onto our being. Some are jagged and raw, the memory of betrayal still fresh. Others are smooth and faded, the pain dulled by time, but the memory a lingering ghost. But here's the truth, my friends, the one they don't tell you in fairytales: a shredded soul isn't the end. It's the beginning. It's the messy, raw material from which resilience is forged. Because within the cracks, amidst the wreckage, lies a hidden strength. It's the stubborn ember that refuses to be extinguished, the will to rise even when your knees buckle. It's the fierce love that clings to life, even when it feels like all hope is lost. We, the shredded souls, are the survivors. We have walked through fire and emerged, battered but unbroken. We know the depths of despair, but we also know the tenacity of the human spirit. So let the tears fall, my friends. Let them cleanse and purify. Grieve the losses, rage at the injustices, scream into the void if you need to. But then, when the storm subsides, pick up the tattered pieces of your soul. Hold them close, mend them with the threads of self-compassion and love. Because in the brokenness, you will find a new kind of beauty, a resilience forged in the fires of hardship. You will find a strength that can weather any storm. And maybe, just maybe, you'll discover that a shredded soul can be the most beautiful one of all. It's a testament to a life lived, a heart that has loved and lost, a spirit that refuses to be defeated. It's a symphony of scars, a song of survival, and a testament to the enduring human spirit.
