It's funny to think that the first article I ever wrote on Vocal was about setting goals and New Year's resolutions, and here I am, 3 years and 108 stories later, writing one again. That first article, as much as I'd genuinely liked it when it was first published, is garbage. I'd rather read the instruction manual for my lawnmower, cover to cover and in all of the languages, than read that piece again.

My hopes, dreams, future...
This past year has been so full of change and growth for me and my children and Vocal has been one of my biggest inspirations. You see, in September of 2022 I broke up with my narcissistic alcoholic now ex-husband, and since I had been with him for 8 years my brain had forgotten who I was anymore. I thought I knew but honestly, I had no clue. However, at some point in my healing journey I found Vocal...again. I discovered something that I had long since forgotten because according to Vocal I had joined in 2017. I discovered a world of writers much like myself here and more importantly, a place to express myself and not be judged. Here on this platform are my people. The forgotten in society, the swept under the rug, the creators, the artists, those of us who fight for the light but know sometimes you must know the dark well to appreciate the light... we're all here. I've worked for almost a year now on Vocal honing the writing skills that I once used so often and was so proud of but had all but forgotten thanks to my ex-husband and life. The challenges that Vocal provides have provided me with both a new and exciting challenge to both grow and expand my talent and excitement at trying something new. I haven't won a challenge yet but I plan to keep trying as that is one of my goals for this year. I did recently have my first Top Story which I was extraordinarily excited about...https://shopping-feedback.today/families/fort-mother. Finally creating a story that achieved Top Story on Vocal seriously made my week and I can only imagine what winning a challenge would do for my excitement levels. I am simply a struggling single mother of two like many others who is just trying to achieve my dreams for both myself and my children. This year I have already enrolled in college and am taking an English Comp class to start with so I can better hone my writing skills, I've joined a domestic violence survivors group which I am so thrilled about and I have several plans for here on Vocal as well. This year I have a couple of stories still lingering in my Drafts folder that I plan to finish. One is about a girl who is just trying to broaden her horizons by moving from California to Arizona and in doing so she finds herself on a journey that she did not expect nor did she invite, she almost dies and the other is about a woman in a domestic violence situation who fled and in doing so killed her husband or so she thinks and now she has to start over in a brand new town that she knows nothing about and everyone is suspicious of her. I also hope within this year to keep writing on this platform as much as possible as my schedule is very full and to take what I can from the writings of others. If I were to win this challenge or any other challenge I enter I would use that money to go towards a better future for myself and my children. I would use the money to pay off some debts, put food in my children's bellies, and save some if I could. I hope to one day be able to use my writing as a side job/passion to be able to make money from my writings and save that money so my children can go to college or wherever they want to go in life and live a brighter life than I have at times. I have made mistakes as we all have but I am trying and learning every day. I hope to one day live a life of comfort and travel. No, I do not want to live lavishly only comfortably and I believe that I can achieve some of these dreams through Vocal. Vocal has been such an inspiration to me as you can tell and I'm not just saying this, it truly has...so thank you for reading this and any other of my work that you've read.

Had I written this four months ago, it would have been a bitter admission; today I state facts with a wry chuckle and a heavy dose of humility. This Year on Vocal
I came across this vocal challenge and I’m honestly stumped. Sure, I thought about my New Year’s resolution a lot and as always my goal is to eat healthier, drink more water, care about my body more possibly because I’ve been sick all of 2024 so far. As I write this from the comfort of my bed I have not really thought of Vocal Media and what goals I want to achieve here…I’ve earned too story in October of 2023 and I felt so proud to be writing about something most women feel to be true. Sure, it would be nice to be noticed again but I don’t think I am the best writer and it’s hard competing against writers that give more effort than I do. I write because I love it, I love sharing my perspectives and passions with strangers. I think to improve as a writer I want to spend more time editing, I hate that part of writing. The checking of commas, periods, semi colons, seeing if my sentences make sense. I hate the whole process it’s so gruelling and it makes me want to pull my hair out, even with that though I know I can be better by doing myself that favour and checking my work before submitting. However, before writing more often or checking my grammar I think I need to read more. I will be honest I do not read other creator’s stories…does that make me a terrible vocal founder? Umm…maybe? Lately, I have been reading the challenge winners though and I feel I have gotten better with reading more works of creators in the vocal community and in turn it will turn me into a better writer. I know, I know I can hear the vocal community yelling at me for not being more involved and I think that’s where I need to start is by reading other posts and maybe write a comment or two. The problem is that when I read something with too much detail I get super unfocused. I don’t want to read “The Lord of the Rings and the Two Towers” I want to read something that happens, something that is compelling and can draw me in right into the action of the story. I read fantasy and science fiction novels and series. I can’t read a fiction novel that is about absolutely nothing that’s not entertaining to me. I don’t know if it’s maybe that while doing my English degree I had to read so many classics such as “The Potrait of a Lady” and “The Sun Also Rises” and I can’t even fathom the idea of picking up another classic. It almost causes me to have PTSD to think about the books I had to read. They’re all just so boring and nothing ever happens in these novels. I did care for anything I read in school. I’d rather pick apart books like “Fourth wing” and see how the author creates a world where Dragons and humans need to bond. I’ve published my own book that sheds light into my customer service experience and all the things I’ve encountered. I don’t know what I was expecting from that, but I knew no one would buy it. I’ve made 10 sales in the last year. Self publishing is affordable but it’s hard to get a cut from it. Anyways, back to the goals I want to achieve with vocal media. I think I’d like to be more recognizable by earning more top stories this year. I could achieve that by winning a challenge as well and I think I need to edit more and maybe write more on topics that people find controversial, but that can be difficult as people will not agree with my conservative mindset. Then, I would be getting more hate and I think it’s better to keep my opinions about certain topics to myself. Yet, the reason why I don’t get people to notice me is because I avoid risk. There’s always a risk associated with speaking your voice. In this year of 2024 I need to learn how to check my grammar more often, I need to take risks and hopefully I will win a challenge in the 2024 year and read more community posts. These goals I’ve set up for myself can happen I just need to get out of my shell a little more. Here’s to more writing!
