My Grandmothers Said so

So it must be true

By Mother CombsPublished 7 months ago Updated 7 months ago 1 min read
A picture of the Author at seven months of age. The second photo shows Bonnie at eleven years old standing beside the image.

Once, there was a little girl, so stinking cute and well-loved, she knew the universe revolved around her. With dark curly hair and big blue eyes, she proudly sat amidst everyone's attention. Knowing that she could do nothing wrong, she basked in the glow of their pride, as they expounded upon this wee lass's perfections.

The grandmothers would teach her tricks, like how to blow bubbles with bubble gum or to play pat-a-cake. Enjoying the adoration of her admirers, the child always put on a show. Gladly mimicking everyone like a capuchin.

She knew she was cute; Grandmas said so.

A/N:

My grandmother Bonnie and her cousin took me to have the above picture made when I was little, and it hung on her wall until she passed away in 1988. My mother then had the picture in her possession, stored away in a back room closet until 2018, when I went down to Texas and decided I was bringing it home with me. The day I brought it into the house, Courtney took a photo of the picture, with my Bonnie standing beside it for size reference.

This picture is just an example of the spoiling that both my grandmothers unleashed on me.

part I loved the best: "the child always put on a show." How wonderful to feel so loved and have so much fun...what a great environment and wonderful grandmothers. The size of that framed picture attests to the adoration they had for you, too. Now we see (in your stories/poems/love for others) that you still mimic all the fun you learned! Thank you for making us feel special, too.

  • Very cute photos and story! The photo sure sizeable!

Awww you look so cute! 💛 Such a sweet little story. Grandparents always like enjoy spoiling the grandchildren. I'm guessing Bonnie was named after your grandmother then? It's always cool passing the names down the line.
