Unlocking My Love Part 3
Welcome back, readers. If you have been following this little three-parter I have created, you know about my first written story and how I strayed from the writer’s path during high school. However, if this is your first time reading this short jaunt down memory lane, I shall direct you to where you can visit previous installments. You can read, or revisit, those crucial points in my writing journey here: Part 1 and Part 2. Would I consider those my first writing piece is a matter of perspectives? Sure, both were written in the form of freelance, but the title of my first official story for eyes beyond my own goes to a piece I wrote for a writing contest.

The Wizard of Oz 3
It was a long time ago, back in my earliest days of high school. We had a project due for my drama class, and the basic idea is we had to act out a bunch of scenes from a chosen play. Many students took this premise and simply worked with a collection of scenes from any well-known work of art, Shakespeare, and the like. I, however, had a deep and passion and yearning to not merely replicate works that had been previously done, but to put my own ideas out there in the ether. I wanted more than anything to create something that was mine and share it with everyone.

Deadline
A pit of dread grew in my stomach at the looming deadline. The assignment was to write a short essay on a place or experience that touched your feelings over the holiday break. Feelings? As a seventh grader, I didn't know how to express my feelings. My world was a conundrum of my body and mind transitioning and at war. Some kids were ahead of others on life's timeline, while others, like me, lagged. Tony, a classmate who lived down the street, had zits and was shaving while my friend Randy and I remained smooth-faced. From up the street, Julie had quit the neighborhood gang and acted differently towards boys. Kelly, who lived across the street, thought Julie was acting silly and continued to hang out with us.

The Great Painting of the Sky
The sky was always beautiful to me. I have taken so many pictures of just the sky. It has always fascinated me to look at the sky at any time of day. The clouds float by, and the sun always shines brightly. The end of a long work day always brings the atmosphere for the last site before heading home. It is the one constant thing that keeps some sanity in my life. The soft colors vary from the time of day. It was a pretty painting that never ends right before my face. I can always enjoy it despite the time of year.

Mysteries in Mini-Notebooks
Every day of junior high, as I headed to the large cafeteria that assaulted the senses with smells of fried foods, industrial cleaner and hundreds of teenagers, I walked past the student store. One day I stopped and looked through the items for sale. I noticed a small flip notebook, similar to the ones you see police officers use on tv, except cheaper and less official looking. I purchased one for the whopping cost of 25 cents. I gripped my new purchase in my hands and felt a jolt of electricity. The little notebook seemed to hold possibilities.
