My advice to the struggling writers

I believe that within all of us is a story waiting to be told. I believe that we each have the power to create our own destinies, and our own lives guided by truth, and peace, and love. My poetry is a reflection of my story, my soul. That's why I'm here.

I started writing at a very early age in elementary school, and over the years it progressed into an obsession. I started writing more poetry as I got to high school, and I even had a whole binder full of it that I kept around me almost at all times, because I felt that I was bearing the secrets of my soul, as every writer feels, when they express what is deeply within them. I guess to me, that's what makes poetry so beautiful and interesting. Each person creates this visual picture in others' minds in their own unique and interesting way. That teaches us a lot about ourselves. That teaches us a lot about life.

Even though I can't finish any of the long term stories I write because I have ADHD, my poetry is story enough to tell. I started realizing that very recently. It's beautiful writing that I should appreciate. All the years I wasted putting myself down and looking at my poetry and hating it and myself, I was unable to see the real beauty and the real value in the way I write, the way I speak straight from the heart without feeling nervous. Feeling comfortable emptying the contents of me on the internet. I guess I've always been that way, though.

When I feel myself losing focus of what's most important to me in my life, poetry is there for me. I can go to a journal or a computer and find inner peace and solace when I am writing. I empty the contents of my soul in hopes that someone, anyone will be able to relate, or reflect, or feel inspired from something I've written. That's the most important thing to me; inspiring others. Even if I can't do great, large, amazing, big things in my life, I can do simple, small things that may or may not inspire someone. I can only hope that they will inspire someone to do something great. So, that's what I aim to do in my life. I aim to remind others to keep pushing forward and never give up on yourself!

If you've ever felt like giving up, or giving in, I implore you to continue fighting onward, no matter what. Your dreams are important, your life here matters. You have a unique vision that you bring to the world that no one else does in quite the same way. Even if you can't see it, someone else out there appreciates what you do. Someone else out there cares very deeply about you, dear reader. I care. I want you to follow your dreams, too. That requires action and patience and consistency and all these things I'm pretty terrible at, but I'm now learning to use to my benefit. I want you to make the world a better place by being yourself, and also bettering yourself, making yourself the best "you" that you can be. I think that's the way life should be. So, remember that, and keep it with you, long after you read my sappy poetry on here.

Sincerely,

Anne Marie

Here are a few of my favorite quotes to help inspire you:

“If you are a dreamer come in

If you are a dreamer a wisher a liar

A hoper a pray-er a magic-bean-buyer

If you're a pretender com sit by my fire

For we have some flax golden tales to spin

Come in!

Come in!”

― Shel Silverstein

“To be nobody but

yourself in a world

which is doing its best day and night to make you like

everybody else means to fight the hardest battle

which any human being can fight and never stop fighting.”

― E.E. Cummings

“Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.”

― T.S. Eliot
