How to Publish a Story on Vocal Media

Rhea had been writing since high school—journals, short stories, even a few half-finished novels sitting forgotten on her laptop. But publishing her work? That was a different story. The idea always felt overwhelming. Where would she even start? Who would read her work? Was she good enough?

Then, one day, while scrolling through Reddit, she saw someone mention Vocal Media.

“A platform for writers to share stories, earn from reads, and participate in challenges,” the post read.

Rhea clicked the link, her curiosity piqued.

And just like that, a new chapter began.

Step 1: Getting Familiar with Vocal Media

The first thing Rhea noticed about Vocal was how clean and professional it looked. It wasn’t messy like some free blogging platforms. Each story looked well-formatted, with compelling cover images and clear typography.

She began exploring the communities—categories like Fiction, Confessions, Poets, Motivation, and Life Hacks. Each section had its own flavor and audience. Rhea read a few stories, and something clicked.

This could be the place where my words belong.

Step 2: Creating an Account

Publishing on Vocal required a free account. So Rhea signed up with her email and created a basic profile. She uploaded a photo, added a short bio (“Just a dreamer with a pen”), and checked her inbox for the verification email.

Account setup: done.

She was now officially a Vocal creator.

Step 3: Writing the Story

Rhea had a piece she’d been meaning to finish—a personal essay about moving to a new city alone. She opened the Vocal editor by clicking the “Create Story” button at the top of the site.

The editor was refreshingly simple. A title field. A subtitle field. A large space for the body text. She copied her draft from Google Docs and pasted it in, then began formatting:

Headings for section breaks

Bold text for key sentences

A relevant Unsplash image for her cover

And finally, a few tags: moving, adulthood, city life, personal essay

She chose to submit it under the Confessions community, since it was personal and reflective.

Step 4: Editing and Refining

Before clicking “Submit,” Rhea took a break. When she returned, she re-read everything aloud.

She caught a few typos, removed repetitive lines, and tightened the ending. Vocal didn’t have spellcheck built-in, so she copied the text into Grammarly for one final polish.

The story was ready.

Title: New City, New Me

Subtitle: What starting over in a strange place taught me about who I really am.

Step 5: Submitting for Review

Unlike social media platforms, Vocal reviews all stories before publishing. Rhea clicked Submit for Review, and a message popped up:

“Your story is now in the review queue. Most stories are reviewed within 24–48 hours.”

She felt a mix of nerves and excitement. Would it get accepted? Would anyone read it?

Step 6: Story Goes Live!

Less than 12 hours later, she received an email:

“Your story has been published!”

She clicked the link, and there it was—her words, live on Vocal Media, with a beautiful layout and share buttons.

She sent the link to her friends, posted it on her Instagram story, and even shared it in a writing group. A few hours later, someone commented: “This hit home for me. Thank you for writing this.”

That one message made it all worth it.

Step 7: Exploring Vocal+

Rhea learned that Vocal also had a premium membership called Vocal+. For $9.99/month (or $99/year), writers earned higher pay-per-read rates and could enter exclusive cash prize challenges.

She joined a Vocal+ Challenge titled “A Place Called Home” and submitted a new story. Though she didn’t win, she gained confidence, feedback, and a few dollars from reads.

What Rhea Learned Along the Way

By her third story, Rhea had found her rhythm. Publishing on Vocal wasn’t just about pushing content—it was about crafting stories and finding a community of fellow writers and readers.

Here are the steps she swore by:

Read other stories first. See what works and what kinds of stories are being told.

Write from the heart or the imagination—just write.

Use the Vocal editor to enhance, not overwhelm. Keep it simple and clean.

Pick the right community for your story’s theme.

Edit like a pro. Walk away and come back to revise.

Submit, then promote. Share your story to get more reads and feedback.

Engage with the Vocal community. Read others, leave comments, and connect.

Final Thoughts

Now, every Sunday morning, Rhea sits down with her coffee and starts writing something new—sometimes fiction, sometimes personal, sometimes poetry. She’s published ten stories, entered four challenges, and even earned enough to treat herself to a new set of journals.

Vocal Media didn’t just help her publish a story.

It helped her become a writer.
