How do I lose weight in postpartum?

My story on weight loss

By Rubikalakshmi SPublished 2 years ago 2 min read

When I am writing this article I am 3 months postpartum and I have reduced nearly 13 kgs (67 to 54 kgs) now from the weight when I was discharged from the hospital.

It is not as complicated as people think. You should start your weight loss journey when you are pregnant. It may sound meaningless but yes you can start your weight loss journey when you are pregnant not physically but mentally. You should accept that you are pregnant so you are going to put on weight and you should be confident that you will come back to your ideal weight after your delivery. You can eat junk

occasionally during your pregnancy as we crave more at that time but eat mindfully and keep in check on the quantities you have. And you should be determined that you start your weight loss journey physically right after you deliver your baby. You cannot work out in that time itself you can take time as suggested by your doctor but be mindful of your eating. Elders will say that you are feeding a baby so you require more food and they will provide you with many diary products because they think that you will produce more milk if you drink it more but don't go behind them. You just require 500 calories more to produce the breastmilk so eat mindfully and healthy food. Elders may advise you to avoid some veggies or green leafy vegetables as it might cause gas issues to the little one but have all the veggies and green leafy vegetables in moderation.

Get your family members' support to take care of the baby. If you feel bad as your hormones are changing open up with your partner or your parents so that they will take care of you, they will help you from getting stressed or they will help you to get out of that depression. Do meditation whenever you have time, just watch your breathing so that your mind calms.Take as much as rest you can but keep in mind that you will start to work out and walk right after your recovery.

Start with walking then progress to other workouts. I would suggest you do it at home as you couldn't find time to go to a gym for your workouts while taking care of your little one. So there will be no reason to escape from those workouts. It will be good if you do HIIT exercise rather than doing just cardiac or going for weight training. Get some time before moving to weight training, and do your workout when you can. Because we can't say that you will find a fixed time for your workout as you are a new mom. And don't give up on this journey if anybody speaks bad about you for spending time for yourself, don't mind them. You should take care of yourself first for taking care of your baby. This journey not only helps you to lose weight but also helps you to improve your self-confidence and it will keep postpartum depression at bay.

Stay confident and stay fit!
