How About Old But Gold
As a title for a novel about me
Self-love is the road toward healing. These prompts are an invitation to step inside yourself. Rupi Kaur
In my life so far I have found self-love is important. It isn't easy truly loving another without self-love. Self-love means I choose to not be mistreated. I have been with my husband for 24 years. Whenever we disagree, I know we can move on from that as we have done it over and over again.
Self-love ensures I will not be mistreated. And because I love him, I will not mistreat him either. Has it always been this way for both of us? Not always in previous relationships. We both were raised in alcoholic/addicted families. We have both had many years of healing.
Rupi Kaur's Self-Love Writing Prompts - If your life were a novel, what would you title it and why?
How about the one above, "Old But Gold." I have written a book about An Elder in the Twenty-First Century. I was 47 in 2001 and one year into a new relationship. Now, I am 70 and have been in my current relationship for 24 years.
How time flies when you are having fun. The things I have written have a small audience. I have sold them at a fundraiser for cancer, so they have been written to fit the audience and they don't always fit. If you have had cancer, who wants to read a book about cancer?
Someone's story you don't know. I did read two other books that were recommended when I got cancer. There is definitely time. Then I wrote a book about diabetes and one about the culture. It was a fundraiser for the Powwow for Hope, American Indian Cancer Foundation.
The title Old but Gold sounds about right. I'm sure it must be taken, however, and I have faith that I will get to material that someone may read one of these days.
Even if it is after I am dead.
Rupi Kaur's Self-Love Writing Prompts - I feel rejuvenated after ___________________.
I feel rejuvenated after: A meeting. After good laughs with the hubby, friends, and family. Spending time with my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. After a shower. A motorcycle ride. Getting my kitchen cleaned up. Spending time in the BWCA.
When by the water and in the woods. At water ceremony. After a reiki treatment or after a full day of giving reiki treatments. Holding hands with my honey or a grandchild. Then, after my favorite meal. These and more.
Rupi Kaur's Self-Love Writing Prompts - _____________ inspires me to be the best version of myself because___________.
My culture inspires me to be the best version of myself because of the seven grandfather teachings.
Love, I learned I don't have to like everyone but I have to Love everyone. It is possible. Knowing love is to know peace.
Respect is another that can be difficult but important in life. It is a way to honor all of creation. I was taught as a child to give back for what I am given from nature be it food, clothing, or water and caring.
Bravery is what I received in my bear clan. I can be similar to a mother bear when it comes to my cubs. The use of bravery is important even when it is tough. Integrity is important in considering our choice of action or not.
Truth is in knowing our gifts will be our guide.
Honesty is knowing and saying what is honest for us. Action is important in doing the right thing.
Humility for me is knowing I am just as important as the next person and that I needed to stop living with placing most others above me and the rest below me, but rather placing others on an even plane with me.
Wisdom comes in all sizes, it isn't just reserved for the elders. Although we have lived a long time and have some valuable experiences to share. Wisdom is a combination of all of the grandfathers and life experience.
