In third place, John’s “my favorite movie magic is reel to reel” captures his favorite film’s nuance and mystique perfectly, as well as its most pivotal moments. His additions of screenshots from the movie itself add detail and context to his wonderfully depicted summary and analysis of “The Third Man”. It made me want to drop everything and watch the movie immediately, as a great piece should.
In second place, Paul’s “Why I Love One Piece” was delightfully executed. He delves into the significance of the show’s solid characters, adept foreshadowing, and great emotional moments. He also delves into the love of media being a tool for connection and for forgiveness, which was a profound and deeply personal insight that really struck a chord with me.
And in first place, Shirley’s “The Five” blew me away. We so often neglect ourselves and our own needs for the sake of others. Shirley encapsulated how “The Five People You Meet In Heaven” made her come to that realization and come to terms with her own humanity, and that’s exactly what incredible media makes us do. Her description of the emotions her favorite movie welled up in her deeply moved me, and first place deserving goes to her phenomenal piece.

I’ve been writing on Vocal for a year now, and my favorite thing about the platform is the freedom it grants you as a writer: you can write about pretty much anything you want. And sure, some more obscure or unpopular things will get less traction, but the point still stands: Vocal is a place where you are free to write about whatever interests you, and therefore about whatever makes you you.

Congrats to the winners! 💛 I knew John would place with his one. I read Alexandria's and Mike's, too, and loved them (and your "Better Call Saul" one, which I know is not a proper entry, but it was such a good dive into the show).
