Better Late Than Never
This poem belongs to Chapter 2: Latin American Popular Sayings with a Soulful Adaptation. (When the soul’s timeless call invites you to embrace new beginnings, no matter the hour.)

It’s not just a phrase,
it’s a key
that opens doors closed by fear,
by “what will they say,”
or by “I’m too late now.”
Some think the soul retires with age,
that dreams expire like passports,
or that trains no longer come.
But that’s not true.
Because the soul has no age,
the soul only waits.
And even if decades pass,
even if the body tires,
even if pride has taken root,
(a part still beats inside
that wants to live what it never lived.)
Asking for forgiveness has no expiration date,
saying “I love you” neither,
going back to study,
changing course,
embracing those you left behind,
even starting over…
It will never be too late
if your soul still desires it.
Not doing it doesn’t relieve,
it only accumulates
that internal weight of what could have been.
And that weight, my love,
hurts more than failure itself.
So do it.
Call it.
Say it.
Forgive.
Love.
Study.
Break that wall.
Take the first step.
And if you tremble,
tremble,
because that’s how it must be.
Do it anyway,
because better late than never.
And the soul,
at last,
when it is heard,
will never reproach you for the time you took.
It will thank you
for having tried.
And you,
in this conscious life,
will be the happiest person in the world.
