These prompts are an invitation to step inside of yourself and explore what balance means to you. Rupi Kaur

Balance to me means ensuring I am getting what I need for my mental health, bodily health, mind as a lifelong learner, and my spiritual health being most important as it makes the job for the other areas easier.

My husband solves the rubix cube daily. Sometimes as many as five times a day. I can’t solve it but I have balanced it like in the photo above. Well, kind of. It was sitting on two fingers! We all have our special talents and solving the rubix cube is not one of mine.

Rupi Kaur Balance Writing Prompts — Activities that help me unwind after a busy day are ____________. Three additional activities I want to add to this list are ______________.

Activities that help me unwind after a busy day are sitting in my recliner and relaxing with my husband over a cup of herbal tea. Then talking about our day. I enjoy hearing what he has been up to during his day and sharing with him what I have done.

Another thing I will regularly do is to read stories here on Vocal or Medium or listen to them and heart or clap. Today, I committed to also comment on Vocal and highlight and comment on Medium.

Activities I want to add are:

1. An occasional walk after an especially busy day, even when I don’t feel like doing one more thing, as somehow I know this would help.

2. Going on a deer run on four-wheelers with my husband who asks me on occasion but I always feel too tired to go and I am disappointed I didn’t go when he comes home saying he saw four deer.

3. Read some fluff. Nothing I have to think about or figure out. Or watch Hallmark on television.

Rupi Kaur Balance Writing Prompts — My current method for relieving stress is ____________________.

Remembering to breathe. Prayer. Going for a motorcycle ride. More prayer. Sometimes I work on meditation/mindfulness and it does work to relieve stress when I remember.

Meditation doesn’t have to be transcendental meditation. Just having learned to live in the moment, rather than always being in the past or future makes a huge difference in my daily life.

Mindfulness is a newer term. “Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention to the present. This state is described as observing one’s thoughts and feelings without judging them as good or bad.” Psychology Today Staff

When I give the cause of the stress over to God, the stress will often simply go away when I truly mean it. And it happens even when I think I won’t sleep, I can doze off easily.

Then, an occasional phone call to my sponsor can de-escalate my stress pretty quickly. Talking to another person somehow minimizes my stress when having someone listen. And sometimes I hear others and realize that mine isn’t so bad after all.

Rupi Kaur Balance Writing Prompts — I am enough because ___________.

Although I don’t look like the photo above, I relate to the picture in the photo as it tells me a lot about her confidence and acceptance of herself and her culture. She knows she is enough.

Because, I have accepted myself just the way I am, knowing and accepting who I once was, what happened, and what I am like now, I know I am enough.

Being an elder in my tribe, and having responsibilities that are important to complete helps me to recognize that I am enough.

My responsibilities include being a culture consultant and helping others to work in a better way with our Native American people looking for help and supportive services.

My responsibility is to continue to give what I can to my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Helping them to know how loved they are and how they are enough!
