And More Thoughts On My Vocal Writing

In The Current Climate

By Mike Singleton πŸ’œ Mikeydred Published 6 months ago β€’ Updated 6 months ago β€’ 1 min read

Introduction

I usually publish two or three Vocal stories a day, but I could publish a lot more if I did not rein myself in on certain subjects.

The music is "Happy" by The Carpenters, a favourite of my mum's, and a gorgeous record.

Certain Subjects?

In the current economic and political climate, it looks like the bullies are getting their way and being supported by a lot of people. I often really want to rant, but I almost always pull myself back because I want people to be uplifted by my writing.

It is the same with hurt and grief, which seem to be very popular subjects, and though I have touched on them many times, I do not want to depress or solicit sympathy from people.

I want to make you smile, make you laugh, raise your spirits, and the only tears I want from you are tears of joy. Ironically, that makes me unpopular on Vocal, but I am not chasing that; I hope to make at least one person feel better.

Having said that, looking at my last six stories, you may think that I am fibbing.

So, having said my piece, I will publish this, and thank you for reading. Now I will consider my next uplifting and positive story.

You’re brilliant mate x I haven’t been able to read much on Vocal lately and I’m just about publishing to be honest but when I do read have time to read stuff I definitely like to read yours x

I tend to steer clear of politics, no matter which side. It's too volatile, no matter what. Someone will have something to say to disagree. Crap, I have someone who unfollows me every time I share a horror story, but yet she follows me back when I share a happy piece.

I think it's great that you aim to uplift! And to bring joy to people. I have a q (I should probably know the answer but I don't...obviously): Does Vocal have a word count for stories? A minimum and a maximum? I don't mean the special rules for some challenges, just a general min & max count? If you answer this it will bring me some joy (not as much as you stories maybe but some...)

I think you should continue to write about whatever you choose. It's noble to want to inspire and upliift, but I see nothing wrong with writing about what's on your mind.

I’m in the same boat. Need to write less about bastards and more about heroes lol

  • You are popular. Anyway I have to write about the good the bad the ugly the truth. I have been writing like that since I was a child and then there was Journalism in college . I write about politics , live, romance, hate, helping people like my friend's friend that was kidnapping by ICE in the San Fernando Valley . Lollipop land is a beautiful place. I am a Virgo for Pete's sake πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸπŸπŸπŸπŸŒΉπŸŒΉπŸŒΉI love your stories

  • Unpopular? You're like the most popular writer on Vocal! Everyone knows who Mike is hehehe
