"A Day in the Life" - Winners List!
Who Won the Unofficial Poetry Challenge?
Here's the challenge if you'd like to read some great poetry in the comments section!
I never thought it would be so difficult to choose winners for a competition. I'm not going to lie, I sat here for quite a while mulling over everyone's poetry. You all write so well. So, thank you for making this almost impossible to do. But! I think I have finally chosen my top three. Just to give you all some perspective, I've literally been working down to the last few minutes of time before I had chosen to announce the winners so here we are!
The Winners List
1st Place:
I have to say, I was obsessed with this poem. I think I must have read this one poem some five or six times. The personifiction, the rhythm, the way it has been formed on the page. Simply brilliant. Congrats to Cathy (Christine Acheini) Ben-Ameh for her amazing skill in poetry. The way in which she creates the image of the mundane through objects as well, is something I loved. The plainess of the cereal bowl juxtaposed with the light and the magic of the following lines and stanzas is something that really took me away. When I say I loved this poem, there aren't enough ways to say how.
2nd Place:
There are certain poems that just feel so good to read and this was one of them. I'm all for making the mundane beautiful and this one also makes it positive and happy. There's something really dreamy about the language the author uses to get us all feeling that atmosphere with her. Also, I enjoyed the aesthetically pleasing image of the latte! I loved reading about how she takes some time to enjoy the small things in life and if you need to appreciate that more then this is definitely the poem for you.
3rd Place:
This poem is all atmosphere. Everything is so intensely atmospheric, every movement has a feeling, every moment is alive. The simile of the sail "unfurling" is perhaps one of my favourite images in all of the poems I have read. It's got the mundane of waking up and getting out of bed, it also has the atmospheric of every moment lasting and lasting. On top of that though, it has a rhythm which makes the morning almost feel like its unfinished. Part mundane, somewhat tinged with longing.
Conclusion
Again, if you visit the story, there's a whole list of great poems in the comments, I genuinely had a hard time choosing and took it right down to the wire. I'm so happy that so many great poets entered this competition and please, for those of you who couldn't get your stories in - keep your eyes open: I should be dropping another unofficial challenge soon.
