Dear Mailbox,

I know you eagerly await my word and presence. How you beg to swallow thin or thick. How satisfied you feel at the weight of all that has been said.

But alas, even with both my hands ready to cast off these letters, I cannot make my way to you. I am bound to this spot in the main hall. Hands that are armless, heart that beats to the tempo of seconds.

I tick and tock only for you,

The Grandfather

Vocal Creators! You've done it! You've written beautiful, hilarious, heartbreaking, and weird af letters. You've given life to the inanimate and laughter to myself and others on this virtual platform. Applause!

The challenge is officially closed, and now I am tasked with scrutinizing each letter to the ump degree.

Just kidding.

But while I take the next week to fall into your letters, I figured this would be a great time to share the entries with the rest of y'all. I'd love to hear which were YOUR favorite as well.

And if you feel like you want to add in your own lil love letter below, or even write a separate piece, definitely share it (though it won't be counted in the challenge entry pool).

So, without further ado and all that, here are the entries that have been submitted to the Dear Inanimate Lover challenge.

Ruby Red’s I fell down:

Amos Glade's Dear Little Bird:

Henrik Hageland's You Stand Alone:

Tim Carmichael's My Dearest Sheet:

Lightening Bolt's Pets' Pee Pet Peeves:

Susan Fourtané's My dearest Lipstick:

Cristal Beikd's My dearest Aqua:

Cathy (Christine Acheini) Ben-Ameh's 🎸Strings Attached: A Love Letter Exchange Between Cathy’s Guitar and Her Plectrum:

Carolina Borges' I Only Cut Because I Care:

Carolina Borges' To the One Who Holds My Words:

Sincere gratitude to all who entered the challenge! I think this was my first independent one, so that's exciting. Also cool to see who's really out there reading and entering unofficial challenges.

If you're looking for another challenge to enter, Queer Vocal Voices has extended their MicroFic challenge to June 7th. It is open to everyone, and we're excited to see the stories that come forth. Check it out below:

So sad I missed this, and I wish the best of luck to the entries. They did not make it easy on you, Orneg! Excited to see the results.

This challenge sounds really interesting! It's great that you're sharing the entries. Made me wonder which ones will resonate most with people. I've always been fascinated by giving life to inanimate objects through writing. It makes you think about the stories they could tell. Can't wait to see which ones are the fan favorites. What kind of criteria do you think will determine the most popular entries?
