A Bird in the Hand Is Worth More Than a Hundred Flying. (A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.)
This poem belongs to Chapter 2: Latin American Popular Sayings with a Soulful Adaptation.

Since we were children,
they tamed us,
taught us to stay still,
not to chase what burned inside,
because it was dangerous,
because it was uncertain,
because it was too much for you.
They told you, “A bird in the hand is worth more than a hundred flying,”
that it’s better to hold on to the sure thing even if it’s not what you love,
that ashes are better, even if your soul cries out for fire.
But no one asked you what you wanted,
what happens with you, with your being, with your essence,
with the dreams that don’t fit in the cage of what’s possible.
Why should I carry the fears of others?
Where is your purpose
if you always cling to what barely survives in your hands?
I don’t believe in that saying,
I am faithful to the thought
that I’d rather be one of those flying birds
and risk everything until I find the sky that vibrates with me.
Because when you vibrate at your real frequency,
there is no such fear.
That is the biggest lie you’ve been told.
That fear of losing everything is an invention,
a trick of the system so you won’t dare,
but if you feel identified with this,
it’s because you’ve already seen beyond.
You know what resonates with your truth,
and if you act from there,
the birds don’t flee,
they come and perch on you,
accompanying you until you yourself
become one of them,
free,
abundant,
and best of all,
happy.
That saying they repeat so much
is only the shadow of an old belief
spoken by someone who settled for less
because they never dared for more.
That doesn’t have to be your case,
you came to fly,
so if they ever say to you:
“A bird in the hand is worth more than a hundred flying,”
look at them with tenderness
and reply softly,
but firmly:
I wasn’t born to hold a bird,
I was born to fly with them.
