One area that many people overlook is the blog title.

Blog titles are a highly psychological thing. They are how you get into your reader's head, get them to actually understand that this is an article they want to read.

To do that, you have to do some pretty intense work to figure out exactly who your reader is, what they want, and how you can give that to them..

And then package that all up in eight to ten words. It's a big task. Right?

Today, I want to share with you 8-step formula you can to generate highly clickable titles for your blog posts.

Step-1: Start With a Draft Title

Writing is an evolving process. Your post changes as you write.

So, I’m here to free you from the responsibility of creating the perfect title upfront.

Instead, start with a draft title—something simple that keeps you focused on your idea.

For example: Before the final title that you read of this blog post, I start with 8 steps to write blog post title.

That's it. Just the main idea of what the post is about.

Step-2: Now Write Your Article

I’ve said a lot about writing good articles in other content, so I’ll keep it short:

- Write something you care about

- Write something only you can write

- Write something you love

That’s it. Let’s move on.

Step-3: Get Into Your Reader’s Head

Now it’s time to get a little psychological.

Ask yourself:

- Who is your target audience?

- If your readership were one person, who would that be?

- What are their pain points and challenges?

The more you understand your reader’s struggles, the better you’ll be at writing titles that speak directly to them and offer real value.

Step-4: Craft the Title Based on the Reader’s Pain

Now that you have:

- A draft title

- A finished post

- A clear picture of your audience

You’re ready to actually create your real title.

For example:

Let’s say I’m writing to bloggers who love writing but are struggling to get views.

Their pain point: they don’t know how to write a good title.

There are 4 main value-driven approaches to crafting titles that they click:

1. Teach Something New

Use words like:

- “How to…”

- “Step-by-step guide…”

- “Tutorial…”

Example: “How to Write Blog Titles That Get Clicked”

This works well for instructional or educational posts.

2. Offer Entertainment

This could be funny, dramatic, or shocking.

Use emotional words:

Example: “99% of Blog Titles Suck—Here’s Why”

This signals a rant or fun content—perfect for capturing curiosity.

3. Empathy-Based Titles

Your readers just want to feel seen and understood.

Be extremely personal and honest.

Example: “My Bad Titles Were Holding Me Back From My True Potential”

This draws in readers who are feeling the same way and want to connect.

4. Perspective Shift

Challenge your reader’s assumptions.

This is powerful—people hate being proven wrong, but love learning something new.

Example: “The Algorithm Isn’t Your Problem—Your Titles Are”

These titles create curiosity and often surprise.

Remember: You can blend two or more of these types for a powerful combination.

(Well, I didn't use any of these structures. Because I prefer to use numbers in my titles.)

Step-5: Add an Authority Element

If your readers already know and trust you, this isn’t as crucial.

But for newer writers, authority builds trust even before the click.

So instead of:

“How to Write Better Titles”

You can use:

“I’ve Written 100+ Blog Titles—Here’s How to Write the Good Ones”

You can draw on:

- Your personal experience

- A famous figure

- Science or psychology

- Pop culture references

It makes your post more trustworthy before the reader even opens it.

Step 6: Add a Little Spice

This is my favorite step! This is where you flex your creative muscles.

Look for words that are familiar but not overused.

For example:

> Draft: “6 Things Sad People Think”

> Final: “6 Habits of Deeply Miserable People”

“Sad” is okay. But “miserable” is spicier—more specific, more intense, more clickable.

You can also:

- Use a foreign word

- Try unexpected synonyms

- Use contrasts or odd pairings

Example: “Ikigai: The Most Misunderstood Secret to a Happy Life”

Step 7: Experiment

Most people hate this step. But it’s crucial.

Why? Because success doesn’t depend on just your title.

It depends on the algorithm, the audience, the timing—things outside your control.

So, try multiple titles for the same post.

- Ask friends or family which one grabs them

- Watch for which ones perform better over time

- Try new angles for every post

Over time, you’ll spot patterns in what works—and what doesn’t.

Step 8: Make Sure You Deliver On the Promise

You’ve got a spicy, emotional, powerful, authority-backed blog title—great!

But now comes the part a lot of bloggers skip:

Actually deliver what you promised.

- If you said “how to,” give clear instructions

- If you used “authority,” make that voice central to the piece

- If you said “you’ll change your mind,” actually shift perspectives

Because People won’t just judge you on this click. They’ll remember whether you delivered value or not .

And that determines whether they click on your next post.

Final words

Those are the eight steps of creating highly clickable blog post titles.

Hopefully, this helped you.
