2023 failure 2024 success

By Timothy E JonesPublished 2 years ago 2 min read

OK, here goes; I'll be the first to admit that my activity on Vocal in 2023 was less than spectacular, heck, it was all but non-existent.

Until April I was at least going strong with the challenges and a few random stories if nothing else. But for the most-part, vocal had become something that I once did a long time ago, and for over six months I barely even did for no main reason (OK, there actually is a reason but not doing with Vocal). I didn't read anybody's stories, nor did I even build upon the two worlds that I myself had created. One being the Kara/Buffy Cape May Sheriff stories and the other evolving around Josephine & Maria Parker, the survivors of the Titanic now living in New York. Even they were left by the wayside. And there were so many other stories I wanted to do with each of them but didn't.

Sigh. Enough of that and moving forward, what happened last year to cause me to stop is done and over with, so I should stop dwelling on it. I have something planned for the Parker stories, (it was meant to be a trilogy). This takes place 2 years after they were rescued from the Titanic, I don't want to go into details... spoilers.

Also, the Whodunit challenge from last week does contain the latest chapter in the Kara/Buffy story. It's titled “While I slept it off; 100 feet away from me...”

From here on, I plan on submitting a story at least once a week (or more if possible) focusing especially on my fiction and erotica writing, (which seems to be one of my stronger writing points) not counting the challenges, even the ones I find to be more difficult to do, and not just the ones that are to my taste. Yes, some of the challenges do fall out of my field of expertise, especially the poetry and the like, which is sometimes what discourages me from doing them.

And I do not plan on going too overboard on the small scale challenges like the haiku's because I can complete them in 5 minutes and overload my board with nothing but them

I intend to read at least one (or more) other writer's story a day, and at least “like” and occasionally comment on the story and hope that they will return the favor at least a few times throughout the year.

Finally, if I get stuck on one of my stories, I will either read another story in the same vein to see how that worked out, or contact one of the many editors, who surely can give me tips or ideas on where to go with what I am writing, after all that is what you guys are here for.

2024 looks to be a good year as far as my writing is concerned, and if I even do only half of what I say I will do, it will be much better than what I put out last year.

What is there to say: I live in Philadelphia, but wish I lived somewhere else, anywhere else. I write as a means to escape the harsh realities of the city and share my stories here on Vocal, even if I don't get anything for my efforts.

They say honesty is the best policy. We all work at our own pace. Best of luck for the coming year.
