Trees do more than mark seasons and shade our spaces. They store stories, ecosystem value and botanical beauty. In this article you’ll encounter 20 trees whose names start with B. Use this list for inspiration, garden planning, blog posts or to deepen your plant-knowledge.

The 20 Trees (A–Z style, all B)

1. Baobab (Adansonia spp.)

This iconic tree from Africa and Madagascar is known for its massive trunk and long lifespan. It stores water, supports wildlife and features prominently in local cultures.

2. Banyan (Ficus benghalensis)

A remarkable tree with aerial roots that become new trunks, forming wide canopies. Common in India and tropical regions.

3. Bay Rum Tree (Myrica spps.)

Often used for aromatic leaves and essential oils. A smaller tree suited to milder climates or protected spots.

4. Beech (Fagus spp.)

A large deciduous tree producing smooth grey bark and rich wildlife habitat. Known in British woodlands for its presence.

5. Birch (Betula spp.)

Light-barked, elegant and often used as a feature tree. One species, Betula utilis, has bark used for ancient manuscripts.

6. Balsa Tree (Ochroma pyramidale)

Fast-growing tropical tree with very light wood. Useful for model-making and unique gardens.

7. Black Walnut (Juglans nigra)

A major hardwood tree known for its nuts and rich wood colour. (Starts with B: “Black” qualifies for our list.)

Named for its bottle-brush shaped flowers; great for pollinators and gardens in warm zones.

14. Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia)

While genus begins with E, its common name “Blue Gum” allows inclusion under B. Tall and hardy.

18. Betel Nut Palm (Areca catechu, sometimes “Betel Palm”)

Again, common name begins with B; interesting for tropical gardens.

19. Brazillian Pepper Tree (Schinus terebinthifolius)
