Door-to-door transport is a term used to describe the regular service of auto transport accommodations. This means that your vehicle will be picked up from your address, and dropped off- hopefully, at the other address directly, however, it’s not as simple as it sounds, and here’s why.

Why it’s not as simple as it sounds

Door-to-door is the presumed method of delivery, however, there are circumstances, such as military auto transport services, where it’s possible to deliver a vehicle to a drop-off location such as a holding block for private property and items of interest. While, the door to door transport service is the common method delivery, there are circumstances which would necessitate the change of location.

How to make it easier on the carrier

The reason why a lot of carriers charge more for the service than the expense of the trip and wage of the driver, is because there are clients who are simply too difficult to reach. This means that they live in a remote area or a place which is difficult to reach with a regular transport vehicle due to the length of the trailer.

Such places are narrow streets, inner city locations, neighborhoods, outskirts of cities and so on and so forth. This is why, whenever considering the pickup location, also consider the size of the trailer which is coming to pick you vehicle up – that’s how you will make your driver a more appreciative and that’s important considering he is the one responsible for your prized possession.

While the door-to-door transport service entails that the driver comes straight to your garage and picks your car up, in all actually this service is only available for locations which provide the necessary space for the trailer maneuvering. One more thing to consider is the levelness and type of pavement which the road is on – an uneven surface will make the trailer unstable and dangerous for a pickup.

What should you do prior to a pickup - UStrans.com meaning

Before the trailer shows up for the pickup of your auto, you should make sure that all persona items are removed or stored in a single, lockable box in the trunk. This will reduce the disputes of missing items and bring you peace of mind, as well as to the driver of the transport vehicle.

In terms of vehicle preparation, you should make sure that the vehicle itself is at least rolling and it has breaks. This is vital, because vehicles which are nonoperational, are harder to put on the trailer, unless the carrier has been informed beforehand.

This is why, if you don’t have the vehicle in your possession, and the job is a pickup from a dealer, you should instruct them to make sure the vehicle is running and that it can get on the trailer on its own. This manes the job a lot easier, the delivery time a lot shorter, and the driver happier.

If the vehicle is in your possession, we recommend that you put some gas in the tank, make sure the battery is charged and that all breaks are working. Not only will the job be safer, but also the driver will be very appreciative.

Once you find a company who fits with your budget and schedule, you can shipment and work out the details. He won’t disrupt your neighborhood by driving down a residential street. Instead, the car hauler will find someplace close to your door where it’s convenient and safe for you both.

The process works the same on the other end. During drop off, the vehicle company and yourself will pick a spot where it’s convenient for a large vehicle to park and unload. As noted, this may not be at the exact street address where you plan to park the car – but it will be close.
