The Long Road Trip

One of the many fields

It was a nice summer day, and I was bored. I wanted to go somewhere today. So, you bet I was excited when my parents said we were going on a road trip to the beach! I went to my room and started packing my bag. I usually have my bag packed, but I didn't go anywhere for the school year so I didn't pack my bag. I packed a towel, snacks, a water bottle, my iPad, 2 storybooks, and my journal. My parents also brought a cooler.

My favorite thing about road trips is that we pack our bags with food, books, water, and towels! I also like to chat while enjoying the wonderful sight.

We got in the car and started driving. The first half an hour was great! I wasn't bored, didn't cause any trouble, and enjoyed the view! However, for the next half an hour, I became restless and started checking my bag for things to do. Thankfully, I brought my iPad with me, so I played chess. My sister looked over at what I was doing and since she didn't bring her own iPad, she kept asking to borrow mine. So, me being the generous person I am, I gave my iPad to my sister. "Thanks, sister," she said. 'Thank you for making me bored again' I thought.

As the next hour rolled by, everyone was pretty hungry, so we found a McDonald's near, and we got ice cream (unfortunately we didn't add enough ice in the cooler, so our icecreams had melted). After we had finished our ice cream, we started driving through a farm area. I was busy with the fields I saw outside my window. I took a few nice pictures on my iPad. I saw cows, horses, cattle and more farm animals! We played a game to see who could spot most of the animals, and me and my mom tied.

Then, we came back to the highway. "Oh, wait, we forgot about our snacks!" exclaimed my mom. So then we ate our snacks and told jokes. We kept pointing at shops and interesting logos we saw. As we passed Canada's Wonderland, I knew that they must be excited because I went there a few years ago too, but let's leave that for another story...

We then started recounting other trips we went on like the Toronto Zoo, Ripley's Aquarium, CN Tower, Casa Loma, Marineland, Legoland, Brimley Beach, Woodbine Beach, Cobourg Beach, Wasaga Beach, and more! When we were talking about the beaches, my sister pointed out that we had seen 3 different lakes!

Bored, I listened to the GPS, occasionally announcing "Turn right in 200 meters." or "in 400 meters, make a left turn." Then, I played the silent game for a while. I won 2 rounds, whereas my sister won 3. I wanted to play another round, but we had already reached the beach!

From afar, it looked so beautiful that I just wanted to get out of the car and jump in! However, soon, I saw the water and mud mixed in. Still, with a half-heart, I stepped out of the vehicle, and in an instant, the cold air swept against me.

I was shivering as we approached the water. I couldn't even step in the water as I started quivering. "We need to go home." said my mom after a few minutes. I was relieved as my dad started the car to go back home.

Family time is the best thing to accomplish in the summer. We don't need to go to a beach to have that!
