The Five Most Unnecessary Items People Put in Their Suitcase When Traveling (and you probably are too)

Many new and experienced travelers often bring unnecessary items that they believe they need but in reality these items are barely used. When I started traveling I brought many items in my suitcase that were unneeded so I am going to give you the advice I wish I had. Throughout this essay I will tell you the five items that would be best left behind.

Item 1: excessive clothes

People often want to bring many different outfits with a variety of accessories but it is more space efficient to bring a few pairs of clothes and rotate through them. Generally, you don’t need a new outfit everyday and can wear something more than once and many places for rooming have washing machines, so you won’t be wearing dirty clothes.

Item 2: shampoo and conditioner

In addition to clothing, shampoo and conditioner are one of the top items people bring that they don’t use because hotels provide hygiene products. Also shampoo and conditioner take up space and weight in your luggage that you need to conserve for items that you actually need.

Item 3: games

There is a common misunderstanding that you will be super bored and need to bring games or crafts to keep yourself busy. In fact there is not enough time on vacation to be bored. On the planes there are often mini ipods that have movies, games, and music to listen to. Games and crafts also take up too much space and many times have to be left behind. Most people nowadays have a phone where you can download games and movies to keep yourself preoccupied.

Item 4: extra shoes

New travelers commonly bring extra pairs of shoes under the impression that they will need to change shoes for different occasions. This assumption is incorrect and in reality you only need one pair of sturdy and comfortable shoes that you can walk in all day.

Item 5: hair dryer

The number one most useless item to bring on vacation is a hair dryer because they are bulky and hard to transport around. Most people don’t even wash their hair everyday so you wouldn’t even need a hair dryer everyday. Also you can always let your hair air dry which is what most people do in their day to day life anyway.

In total there are many items that are just not needed when traveling, and now you know five items to leave behind to save your precious packing space .
