Selfie Absorbed
Meg was a beautiful grad student, about a year older than me. We were laying on the floor of her dorm room at Columbia University. She rolled toward me and we kissed. With my free hand, I took a selfie at the perfect moment. The photo looked as if someone else snapped it.

A Trip to England (Part II)
It is hard for me to accept how naïve I was about life in London, even at the age of fourteen. I unpacked my bags and filled up her front room with my collection of music tapes. This was my first mistake and a sign that I did not know the culture I was in. I was listening to mostly progressive or light rock (Genesis and Supertramp were personal favourites). My mistake was sharing this so publicly. I had a Walkman, but I sometimes insisted on playing these records on her stereo. What I mean by saying this is that I did not understand the culture I was in and that I was out of step with what I thought I knew from those exports I mentioned (most of my recordings were made by British groups and record companies).

Alice in Appalachia (Downtown Knoxville, TN, Art District)
Yesterday (9/24/22) my family and I took an adventure in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee. We were romping around market square in the art district. We had bought tickets to a Clued Up Games event, featuring Alice in Wonderland.

The Love of a Daredevil
I know, I know…who the hell is Dave Munday? In order to answer that question, I will have to go back to my childhood back in the awful, ugly and beautiful 1980s. My family took a trip to Niagara Falls sometime in my early childhood and I marveled at the sight of all that water at that incredible height. I noted the tacky tourist traps everywhere and the endless parade of other tourists who were also trying to remember the moment in their cheap camera poses. I was no better; neither was the family. My one memory of the trip there involves posing for a photo with a cut-out of a barrel and pretending to drop over the Falls with my family (a part of me wonders what happened to that photograph). And I even got a hat there.

I was impressed by the British fondness for hats. Arriving at London's Heathrow Airport from Shanghai, I saw a huge poster saying "Welcome". It showed a British gentleman in a black bowler hat with his arms outstretched. Just as there is shengxifu hat Shop in Beijing's Wangfujing district, there is James Locke hat shop in London's St James's Street, which is more than 200 years old. Their elaborately crafted black bowler hats are a British brand, costing hundreds or even thousands of pounds each, yet they are worn by the British rich and powerful with pride.
