My Conversations with Eva Péron. Top Story - October 2024.
I laid the LP on the turntable and dropped the needle. The familiar scratch of the vinyl disc hit my ears before the mastery of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s first bars filled the air. The hairs on my arms stood on end as the death of María Eva Duarte de Perón was announced in a cinema in Buenos Aires. Operatic voices rang out with Requiem for Evita, their intensity rising as the seconds ticked by.

Paris with Teens
I have searched the internet over for recommendations on itineraries and activities that will appeal to teens and adults alike in Paris; there is a dearth. Since I have taken my two boys a couple of times and have more trips on the docket, I thought I would share my experiences and plans. This is my list of places and activities I have enjoyed with my boys ranging in age from 10 to 16. Typically, I make a “half-agenda”, aiming for one museum or major site per day (tickets in advance), and then let the spirit of la flânerie take over.

Culture in Benin
In 2022 a white lorry rounded a corner in the city of Cotonou, Benin, and was greeted with a cheering crowd. Through the sea of waving hands, you could just read the message on the side of the van. It said, ‘Restitution des tresors royaux de Benin’. The lorry contained 26 works of sculpture and cultural artefacts which, after 130 years of absence, had just been returned to Benin by France. French soldiers stole the art after invading the Kingdom of Dahomey in 1892.

Battersea Power Station
The rebirth of an old relic is quite exciting. I enjoy going to Battersea Power Station. I particularly like it in the summer because they’ve got deck chairs outside and you could easily spend a couple of hours out in the fresh air, depending on the weather.
