We are off to Tamarindo! Jorge, the nice driver, picked me up from the hotel as promised. However, he had no idea where the bus terminal was. I tried to Google it but not much turned up. I gave him the name of the bus company, Transportes Alfaro, and he asked if it was in San Jose. Thirty minutes later, he pulled over in front of a closed garage door and was puzzled. He said Transportes Alfaro used to be located there but was no longer. I asked if we should be looking for the bus terminal instead of the company and he said probably but he didn’t know where it was. I remembered that the concierge, Edgar, had given me his phone number so I gave it to Jorge to call him. When he called, Edgar said that he didn’t know either. This was puzzling to me. How can two people in the tourism industry for over two decades not know where the main bus terminal was? Eventually Google led us there.

I would like to introduce you to a little city that saved my smile in Mexico called Los Algodones. It's nickname is "Molar City". It has over 5000 residents and about 600 of them are Dentists. Los Algodones is a city in Mexicali Municipality, Baja California located on the United States-Mexico border. It is south of Andrade, California and west of Yuma, Arizona.

What You Need To Know About Costa Rica That Nobody Tells You
I took a “taxi” (i.e. not a red taxi but one that had Turismo sticker on it as many tour companies use their fleet as “taxis”) that the hotel approved of and met an elderly driver who spoke some English and relied on Google Translate for the rest. I paid him $25 US to drive the 10 km distance to the European School which is comparable to the taxi fare from the airport (10 km also). Although it was located only 10 km away from my hotel, it took about 30 minutes to get there due to traffic at 11 am on a Friday. He was so friendly and enthusiastic that I ended up hiring him for the day. He quoted me $20 per hour and I thought it was reasonable.

The Wanderer
Life without my dad has been almost painfully normal. I’ve always thought about him in another era, one ancient and primal where he belonged, wandering an unknown world. I think he was one of the last of a certain kind of person, and the mundane world I was raised in was crushing at times for him. He was the odd one, the one who lived for extremes and wild places, and telling stories about him sometimes feels like fiction, even though I was there and I know that some people really are the main character, gloriously flawed and inherently special.

Xochimilco Canals — Party Down the Floating Gardens of Mexico City
Intro This was the one thing in Mexico City that I was truly excited for, the Xochimilco Canals. A boat party and I don’t mean the kind of boat party you might go on in Malia ala the Inbetweeners. No drinking fish bowls and throwing up overboard, before snogging a questionable stranger. No, I mean a Mexican Fiesta onboard a trajinera! Xochimilco is a world heritage site. The waterways are left over from what used to be a vast lake used for transportation during the pre-Hispanic period. It is a charming scene of intense greenery and the wetlands are a habitat for migratory birds.

My Adventure in Central America
Man, these sure have been a tough couple of years! Out of the many, many inconveniences and restrictions brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, I’d have to say that the worst part for me was having been deprived of perhaps my one true passion – travel. Oh man, how I love to travel. Be it - sailing through the vast oceans of the world, or watching as the clouds drift by at 40,000 feet as you go halfway across the world; hiking up a mountain until you can barely breathe, pushing your way through the thick, untouched vegetation of the jungle, or lying on a tropical beach somewhere with a cocktail in hand – it is everything. It’s what makes me feel alive!
