Jumping Off Buildings in Macau (June 2013)
There are lots of us heading for the Wuhan Train Station on a Friday after school in June. So many, in fact, that it is sort of like an end of the year school trip / party. We have eleven “jumpers” and five who have decided not to jump for money or health or other reasons. They may be talked into it when the time comes though – that remains to be seen. We have been organizing this event for over a month now with the help of a few of our colleagues. We have been able to recruit this present group of adventure seekers and some die-hard cheerleaders.

GET THE REAL THRILL IN SAME DAY AGRA TOUR
The Taj Mahal an epitome of eternal love was built by Shahjahan for his beloved queen. Another is the magnificent Fatehpur Sikri, located 40km from Agra, which is another epitome of the rich heritage. The palace’s grand manly scale is breath-taking - it’s hardly possible not to feel haunted by the spirits of the inhabitant’s emperor, princesses, valets, and humans that once roamed the hallowed courtyards. This scary spine-chilling experience is something that one must taste while in Agra for the thrill.

A Plain Wooden Shrine
When Abe took office, tourism to Japan found a place of prominence on the agenda, governmental interests seeking to open up Japan as it was ‘opened’ up in the time of the Meiji Restoration. In the tradition of such writers as Louis Theroux, the ‘real traveller’ would lament increased tourist traffic for economic gain. As if crossing paths so easily with another foreigner would somehow taint the purity of the place — the authenticity diluted by commerce and by all those who had looked upon it before. An unchangeable permanence, as Frow puts it, the nostalgia of semiotics, signs of culture outside of ourselves. Things that seem simple and pure, only because we don’t understand them—the grandeur of age, immortality, things that last lifetimes, things untouched by the ugly worlds of corruption and the vapid, hollowness of disposable consumer goods.
