Otocec Castle

Bled Castle

Bled Castle is a medieval castle built on a precipice above the city of Bled in Slovenia, overlooking Lake Bled. To enter the castle, you have to cross a drawbridge over a moat. The castle dates back to 1004, making it the oldest monument in Slovenia. Bled Castle hosts cultural events as well as exhibitions in the Romanesque Tower, converted into a gallery. Visitors enjoy panoramic views of Lake Bled, the surrounding mountains, and the picturesque island with its church. The castle houses a museum that displays artifacts related to its history, including a printing workshop and a wine cellar.

Bogensperk Castle

Bogensperk Castle is a 16th-century castle in the Smartno prj Litiji municipality. It has been restored to the Renaissance style. The castle is home to a museum that exhibits historical and cultural collections. There is also a restaurant on-site. The castle is available for events and special occasions. It is surrounded by a lush park.

Branik Castle

Branik Castle is surrounded by densely forested hills in southwest Slovenia. It overlooks the town of Branik. This castle is one of the oldest in the country. It was a Roman fort in the 12th century. During the 17th and 18th centuries, Branik Castle was converted into a Baroque-style manor house. It is a venue for private events.

Celje Castle

The preserved ruins of Celje Castle are spread over three hills in the southeastern part of Celje. At one time it was the largest fortress in Slovakia.

On-site is the Cafe Veronika. There is an information center providing brochures about the site and interesting historic facts.

Ljubljana Castle

The castle is an ancient site sitting on a hill overlooking the capital city of Ljubljana. Ljubljana Castle dates from the 15th century and was built as a defense fortress. This medieval complex rises above the Old City. The castle is depicted on the city's coat of arms, along with a dragon on top. The castle consists of the Archers Tower, the gunpowder store, the dungeon, and the Tower of Erasmus, named after the infamous robber-knight Erazem Lueger and master of the Predjama Castle, the former prison for the nobles, and the information center. There is also Frederick's Tower and the chapel of St. George. The castle can be accessed by road, several trails, or by funicular. It hosts cultural events.

Otocec Castle

Otocec Castle (pictured above) sits on an island in the middle of the Krka River. It is known as the only water castle in Slovenia. Otočec is located near the town of Novo Mesto in southeastern Slovenia.

Dating back to the 13th century, the castle was an Italian fortress during WW II. Today the castle is a combination of Renaissance and Gothic styles. Today, Otočec Castle operates as a luxury hotel and restaurant. There are beautiful parks surrounding it as well as a boathouse and a golf course.

Predjama Castle

Predjama Castle is a Renaissance castle built within a cave mouth in south-central Slovenia, in the historical region of Inner Carniola. This is the largest cave castle in the world. Behind it you’ll find a network of secret tunnels. The cave under Predjama Castle is home to a colony of bats. This castle was featured in the Jackie Chan movie “Armour of God” and in Season 3 of the series “The Witcher.”

Sneznik Castle

This is a lovely castle located in the municipality of Loska Dolina in Loz Valley. Sneznik Castle has four levels enclosed by a Renaissance-style wall. Beautiful parks with linden and chestnut trees surround the site. It is a venue for events like conferences, parties, and weddings.

Sevnica Castle

This castle offers amazing views overlooking the Old Town of Sevnica, in the Lower Sava Valley. In the late 16th century, Sevnica Castle was reconstructed in the Renaissance style. The interior reflects the Baroque period. The castle is home to a museum, art gallery, shop, chapel, and vineyard.
