Ripley's Aquarium of Canada. If you haven't heard of it and you are heading to Toronto for a holiday or visit you should really look into it. It is a huge aquarium with more species of aquatic life than I could count and a good experience. It is a little pricey considering it's just an aquarium but once you get inside you can clearly see why.

There are many reasons to go to Ripley's Aquarium of Canada. If you are a lover of sharks, you can see them up close. If you have children you can watch them be amazed by giant Gruper or petting rays (although the rays are experts at avoiding little hands on short arms) and if you have an interest in photography it is a great opportunity to develop new skills and get some amazing shots.

Depending on your reason for going, you should be mindful of the time. When I took my daughter Clair we went on an adventure so we went on a day that the kids were out of school and the Aquarium was packed. If I was going to go to take photographs specifically I would probably take advantage of the aquariums late night offer. Ripley's Aquarium of Canada offers a late night entry at a reduced cost and because it is late, there are certainly less people. Because everything is so big, people being there are not an issue to view the displays however when snapping some pics, reflections tend to show up in places and at times that they are not wanted.

It took us about an hour and a half to go through the entire building and we moved at a fairly quick pace. The video above is a full walk-through including the walk up from Union Station in fast motion. You could easily plan to spend 3 hours at Ripley's Aquarium of Canada or even longer if you have small children. For the children they have a huge play area off the cafeteria style food court. So you can sit and relax while the kids climb through transparent tubes under shark tanks and other displays. It is really awesome that way, you can just let them go and play while you watch from a comfortable seat and enjoy a beverage or some food.

As far as hands on experiences go, Ripley's Aquarium of Canada is very interactive. There are displays where you can touch sharks, pet rays and watch them play. There are digital interactive displays allowing you to have your image put onto a jellyfish and watch it climb a wall and many others that teach about the aquatic environments in a fun way. They even have a Tsunami simulator to show just how these deadly natural disaster occur and allow you to watch how the energy transfers as it hits the shores.

All in all Ripley's Aquarium of Canada is a great place to visit. If you have not gone and you are in the Toronto area you really should check it out. You may find issues with it if you don't like crowds but if you go on a day when the kids are in school or late in the evening you should be able to avoid them.

I recommend Ripley's Aquarium of Canada for everyone of any age. They offer many additional activities on top of standard admission from photography lessons to swimming with sharks. They even have camps. Check out there website for more information on all of the events Ripley's Aquarium of Canada has to offer.
