As Lucy sat under her favorite tree a Green Ash in her favorite park she often daydreamed about what her life would have been like if she hadn’t been adopted. She often wondered this because she had always felt very alone ever since she was three and a half years old and was put up for adoption. Lucy felt as if there was a huge piece of herself missing but she could never figure out what it was. She never truly felt like she was fully a member of her adopted family. Lucy often thought of herself as the black sheep of the family and that was okay with her because she still loved her adopted family with all her heart. As Lucy sat there thinking about all these things and enjoying her lunch she saw in the corner of her eye, a dog jump up on a bench and start to rummage through the trash can that was right next to the bench. She could tell the dog was famished so she got up quickly but quietly and went to the bench. She didn’t want to startle the dog so she slowly put a big piece of chicken from her salad on a napkin and put it at the edge of the bench. Then she took the lid of a container and filled it with water and put it down right next to the bench. She quietly walked back to her favorite spot under the tree and watched the dog enjoy the piece of chicken and water. Lucy had never seen this dog before, let alone in this park, but yet felt so connected to the dog as if she knew it. The dog wouldn’t come over to her like she had hoped so Lucy told herself heck I’ll just have to come back to my favorite park tomorrow and sit under my favorite tree and wait patiently for the dog to come back and try again. She really wanted to see the dog up close and pet the dog. She hoped that if she bonded with the dog, just maybe the dog would let her take it home with her so they could care for each other. That way the dog wouldn’t be alone and hungry anymore. As Lucy watched the dog run off to the other side of the park she tried to hurry and gather her things so she could follow the dog to see where it was going. But by the time she packed up all of her belongings the dog was nowhere to be seen. Lucy was sad but wasn’t discouraged for she had a plan.

Lucy then rushed home in excitement to prepare her lunch for the next day, keeping in mind her lunch was going to be not only for herself but for the dog she felt so connected to and was looking forward to seeing again. This time Lucy filled her lunch basket with two dish containers both filled with a nice 4oz Ribeye steak, a small salad for herself of course and a little something sweet for both of them. Lucy even put in a nice pretty water dish that she had hand painted that evening and put the name Lucky on it for that was going to be the water dish she was planning on giving to the dog to use. Lucy woke up the next morning and started her day like every other day but this time she just knew it wasn’t going to be like every other day for this day she was going to have a special lunch guest, the dog. She had a feeling the day was going to be extra special. Before Lucy headed out she rechecked her lunch basket to make sure everything was in it just how she had planned. She then headed out to her favorite park a little bit earlier this time to make sure she would get her favorite spot under her favorite tree. While Lucy laid under her favorite tree eagerly waiting for the dog to come by she started to daydream again about her grandpa Joe whom she was very close to before she was adopted. Lucy’s mind started to think again about what would have happened if she wasn’t adopted. Then all of a sudden in the corner of her eye she caught a glimpse of the dog she had been patiently but eagerly waiting for. Lucy was so excited to see the dog back at the bench. This time the dog was laying down on the bench looking right at her. Lucy thought this was interesting since the dog wouldn’t stop staring at her this time. Lucy then started to take everything out of her lunch basket and started to set it up right there under her favorite tree in her favorite park in her favorite spot. Lucy was almost done setting it all up when she pulled out the handcrafted water dish she had made. As she started to pour the water into it she loudly said Lucky and once she did the dog slowly started to come over to her. Lucy chuckled and was amazed. Lucy introduced herself to the dog and then she realized the dog was a he. She invited him to join her on this magical lunch with her. When Lucy called him Lucky he rolled over and got really excited so she just knew a close relationship was meant to be. As she and Lucky enjoyed the lunch that Lucy had prepared for them, she talked to Lucky as if he was just another person. Lucy felt so connected to the dog like they had known each other forever. Lucky loved his Ribeye steak so much he got closer to Lucy in hopes she would share some of hers with him, of course Lucy did.

As the day went on Lucy realized that it was getting late so she started picking everything thing up. While Lucy was packing up her belongings she asked Lucky if he would like to come home with her? He seemed to get extremely excited about the idea because he then started to dig very fast and deep in her favorite spot under her favorite tree. Lucy looked over and realized there was something in the hole Lucky just dug and she reached down and grabbed out a small wooden box. Lucy then told Lucky he truly was a Lucky dog. As she opened the wooden box it contained a small black notebook. As Lucy opened the notebook she fell to her knees crying. On the first page of the notebook there was a photo of her as a little girl sitting on top of a huge dog that looked just like Lucky with a name tag that said Lucky on his collar and right next to her in the photo was her grandpa Joe and they happened to be right next to a freshly planted baby Green Ash tree. As she looked at this picture she was overcome with so many emotions and memories. As she started to go through the small black note book she realized it contained written stories from her grandpa Joe and it also told the reason why he had to give her up for adoption. As Lucy read through the stories she started to feel that all the missing pieces in her began to be filled in. Lucy then found an envelope taped to the the back of the small black note book. The envelope contained $20,000 in cash. Lucy was so happy to have found Lucky for if it wasn’t for that special dog she wouldn’t have found this wooden box that filled in all her missing pieces. She reached out to hug Lucky and thank him but when she called out for him, he was nowhere to be found.
