Camping in Big Bend National Park
In 2019, my co-worker and I took a few weeks off work to drive from Houston, Texas and visit the iconic Big Bend National Park, in west Texas. Our plan included nine nights of camping and hiking in the park during March, which is when the weather is typically the most mild. Ian did the bulk of the planning, but we spent a lot of time looking at maps and deciding what our hiking priorities would be during our time there.

Mariscal Canyon, The Path Less Traveled
At 6:30a, coyotes howled not far from our tent. There was a pack of them, all howling together, yipping here and there. They kept it up until almost 7 and Ian and I decided to wait a few minutes before moving around and getting out. The air outside was cold, the sun still behind Mariscal Mountain, and we quickly bundled up and began cooking our breakfast.

New Orleans: A marvelous city of festivities
New Orleans in south-eastern Louisiana, United States, is unquestionably one of the most distinctive cities of the present time. Its strategic location is at the mouth of the vast Mississippi-Missouri river system. It was the pathway to North America and thus made it a victim in European battles for dominance of the continent. As a result, the inhabitants of New Orleans developed a distinct society while also integrating numerous different cultures. The early settlement was built on the east bank of the Mississippi near a sharp bend, earning it the nickname “Crescent City.” The modern metropolis has grown to encompass a large area beyond its original site.

The Importance of Vacation.
On May 20th 2022 I went on the first vacation I have been on in I don’t know when. On the way home from this vacation I realized for the first time ever why taking vacations are so important as I was enjoying myself. What I came to understand is vacations are not really about getting away, but really just about finding a new way among what is already taking place.

The Wanderer
Life without my dad has been almost painfully normal. I’ve always thought about him in another era, one ancient and primal where he belonged, wandering an unknown world. I think he was one of the last of a certain kind of person, and the mundane world I was raised in was crushing at times for him. He was the odd one, the one who lived for extremes and wild places, and telling stories about him sometimes feels like fiction, even though I was there and I know that some people really are the main character, gloriously flawed and inherently special.

Elves Add Magic to Northern Wonders
Imagine a cluster of far northern lands immersed in greenery, volcanoes, fjords, waterfalls, geysers, lava fields, and magical mists. Wandering around during nights filled with ice and stars, there are endless possibilities in store for a curious adventurer. Artistic landscapes crafted in snow-sculpted reliefs. I am speaking of the Nordic countries, of course, which by virtue of their amazing geography, are already more than enchanting. Going a bit further into the history and folklore, we can add to these fabulous landscapes, a belief in the existence of elves. Yes, just picture those small, beautiful fairy creatures with pointed ears, silky hair, and tiny, sculpted features wearing elegant and beautiful clothing. Elves that do not thrive on attention, but prefer to be left alone to enjoy their tiny homes well concealed beyond the realm of untrained eyes.
