Scottish Motorcycle Diaries
Be you an adventure seeker or a treasure hunter, chances are you can tick both boxes by strapping on a bike helmet and heading for the North of Scotland. I recently made the trip to the beautiful Arisaig peninsula, which sits on the western coast of Scotland before it gives way to the sea and The Small Isles of Eigg and Rum. The journey itself takes in the untamed wilderness of Rannoch Moor and Glencoe; which is where we find our adventure, navigating the serpent-like roads, the treasure is found when the clouds break and spill light across the ferocious looking mountain tops. We have had a fairly exceptional summer in Scottish terms, bright blue skies and warm, balmy nights. Sadly it was back to normal business when I set off from my home in West Lothian, under oppressive grey clouds.

My friend and I spent seven nights in Iceland last month, and all of those seven nights were spent at Loft Hostel in Reykjavik. We initially picked this hostel because it had stellar reviews, and was named one of the best hostels in Iceland. So, let me break down my thoughts.

Things to Do in Calgary for Summer
Hello! Here is a list of great things to do in Calgary during the summer and the fun new things to try. One of the most fun things to do in Calgary is the Stampede. If you love the country/western thing then this is what you should do. There are many rides and parades, which you can attend. If you are over 18 there are the beer gardens and Nashville North to have a good time to dance away. Also, do not forget to try the weird stampede foods such as scorpion pizza and crickets. If you have kids then Heritage Park is where you want to be. Explore Canada's largest living history museum. There are activities for everyone to enjoy and there are more than 150 exhibits in the whole park! there is so much to see. There is also an antique midway for the kids. During the week there are fun-filled activities such as butter making and bracelet weaving! Skyline Luge at C.O.P. This is a new activity, you take the ski lift and then you sit in a little go-kart and you go down the hill driving the cart! this is good for friends or family activity to do. Swimming! everyone loves swimming. Check out the outdoor pools as well; they are worth it on the super hot days. Night Markets. Calgary has a number of night markets such as the one in Inglewood where people share their passion for crafts and lights as well as food. They also have live funky music, which is a lot of fun to listen to. The Zoo! Since the Pandas came to the zoo it has been busy, but worth seeing, and if the Panda exhibit is busy there is always the penguins, which everyone enjoys. Mini-golf. Mini golf is a great date idea; there are a few places such as Monster Mini Golf, or even C.O.P has a great place to do some mini-golf. For those Shakespeare fans, there is also Shakespeare in the park. This is a pay what you can event so if you are into English literature and if you're broke this is a great way to enjoy the theater. Farmer's market. This is the place to get your ingredients for your garden salad. Check out all the ice cream shops. Yum! Go for a picnic! bring a Frisbee or a ball to throw around. Bike around Calgary's trails with your kids or your friends. The festivals! Folk Fest is always a big hit, Stampede, International Blues Festival, Lilac Festival, Labor Day on the Bow, Calgary Dragon Boat Festival, Taste of Calgary Festival... Calgary has a lot of geocaching places, which are very fun. Float down the Bow River. Check out some art classes Take a drop-in dance class. Take a romantic walk across the peace bridge and look at the water. Go to the park and play on the playground or throw a ball around and walk your dog. For all you geeks, there is the Kensington Fantasy Faire, which is a free event and it is specifically designed for those that enjoy the Harry Potter series. There is going to be butterbeer and other fun activities for you to do. This year is bigger than it was last year; there will be lots more to do. Spruce Meadows. Just outside of Calgary is Spruce Meadows. If you love animals such as horses or dogs, this is definitely worth going to. It is fun to see all the jumping and all the dog tricks. Music in the Plaza. This is a great free event for those who love all different types of music. Music in the plaza is just outside of the heritage Park gates and it is worth checking out.

With a week break before the bread and butter of lectures commence, I was at a bit of a loose end for the first time in a while. Any days of boredom were prevented by a suggestion of going travelling for a couple of days into Italy.

Zurich
