Leaving
The Art of Running Away Do you ever feel it in your bones? The feeling of being able to drift away with the slightest wind. An empty pang deep inside of you, longing for something, longing for anything. Then you get this idea, this idea of 'away.' It is a magical idea that captures you, it holds you steady. Suddenly you feel something real, the feeling of hope, of absolute certainty that this is what you need to do.

Small Vacay on Hawaii
I recently went on a small vacation to Hawaii—more specifically, the Big Island. We stayed just outside the town of Kailua-Kona in a tiny town called Captain James Cook. I traveled to this island with my Hubbs and his brother, sister-in-law, and his parents (gasp! vaycay with the in-laws!!!)

Travel Hacks That Will Save You Time and Money
There are few experiences in the world that are more satisfying than traveling. Be it for work or pleasure, embarking on a journey out of one’s familiar circumstances generally requires both ample time and excessive amounts of money. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, we want to ensure that we are spending that money and using that time for things that are beneficial to our trip. As such, wasting either is a no-go for successful traveling.

Walls Jumped, Bridges Made
What if your parents decided to move to another country? More importantly, moving to another country without asking you for permission? When we crossed the border I was scared out of my mind. I felt like I was yanked from my clothes and kicked overboard in the dark Arctic waters. I felt exposed and deprived of parts of my identity. That was 10 years ago when I was in fourth grade, but today I feel much different. Now that my family and I live here, in “el otro lado,” as we call it where I come from. I realize something heart-warming and soul-fulfilling as freshly made tortillas. I am a man of two nations and I am prideful to claim that I have two places to call home.

28 Days in Nepal
Namaste, (The Divine In Me Bows To The Divine In You). This was the word that regardless of the inter-continental language barrier, got us through our 28-day expedition in Nepal. Our school presented us with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity 18 months before our proposed departure date and myself along with nine others snatched up the chance to go to this beautiful country. We fund-raised the required amount to pay for our expenses (flights, kit, vaccinations, food, accommodation, trekking permits etc) and after a highly-anticipated wait, on the 10th July we set off for Nepal.

18 and Moving to Africa (Pt. 1)
18 sometimes seems too young to just get up and move away, especially to a third world country. Experiencing culture shock for the first time, teaching, the best roomie ever, and one crazy spoiled brat, the old me was gone! Yet if I didn't take this opportunity, I know I wouldn't be as successful as I am today.

An Honest Student's Year Abroad
Sitting in a massive lecture theatre brimming with over enthusiastic language students, just like me, gushing over the year that is to come. "I'm off to South America," boasts one girl. "I'm headed to China" beams another, already anticipating the oohs and ahhs that are to come. People always tell you that the year abroad is the best part of your whole uni experience. The year is supposed to be a holiday basically—you fall in love, you meet people, have amazing experiences, yada yada yada. The problem with these things is that people place such high expectations on single events that when the time comes you find yourself somewhat unsatisfied. Social media piles the pressure on even further; you're always left comparing yourself, sizing the others up, zooming and stalking and eventually throwing your phone in exasperation. This my friends, sums up part 1 of my year abroad.

Stranded—10 Days That Changed Our Lives
There are certain days, where we feel drawn in a certain direction. Maybe it’s fate playing her cards, maybe it’s some other spiritual force, we’ll never know. There will be no reason, no logical explanation, just an inexplicable urge to follow that road. This time, unknown to us, it would be a time we’d never forget. A time we’d learn so much of what it means to struggle. What it means to be stripped bare of everything we’re so falsely told we need in this life, and what it means to blindly and boldly trust, let go and fall into the safety net of Mother Nature.
