Ubuntu limited
I remember arriving at Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport the previous day before this photograph was taken, immediately I sensed that this Covid19 was a nightmare. South Africa, as an economic hub in Sub-Saharan region was already hit, and would be soon feel the impact hard. Social distancing was already implemented by the airport authorities. When I queued to get my passport to be stamped at the immigration I stood a distant away from the desk, prior I had already gone through temperature check up for high fever and mandatory being asked to sanitize my hands. I continued to collect my luggage at the carousel and amazingly the bags were ready for collection without waiting time at all. On my way out I stopped for a few minutes at the bathroom. When I came out there was no one in the passage hall leading to the Customs desks. I hastily rushed out hoping to catch up with the handful of people that I was on board with on the rather massive Boeing 737 flight from Blantyre, Malawi. At the Customs the officers on duty just directed me to the way out without the usual long scrutinizing process of checking your declaration form and goods. It’s when I got out of airport entrance foyer I saw an antire different atmosphere from what I’d left behind a few weeks ago. The usual almost pandemonium environment associated with this place was completely nonexistent. Taxi drivers approached me every single minute to offer a lift which at that time I was not interested in. I needed to insert my local SIM card, get Talktime and call a few friends first because I had not decided yet where I’d spend the night and when I’d leave for Cape Town.

The Silver Lining
This is the last photo I had taken before landing in what looked to me like a scene taken directly from a futuristic dystopian 80’s flick. I took this photo because I couldn’t believe how sad it looked compared to where I had just come from. I had just gotten done living in Hawaii on the island of Oahu, for one year and four months. I just so happened to be moving in the space between the beginning murmurs of the COVID-19 pandemic and videos of Italians telling us they wish they would have taken this more seriously. The plan was to stop in Seattle to visit my friend and future roommates, fly home to Ohio for a visit, swing by NYC and drop in to see my Dad in Cape Coral, Florida. I packed everything, said my goodbyes and I was off. Those were my last moments of freedom before quarantine took place.

Can We Back the Train Up?
Sacramento, California is known for its awe-inspiring museums - the train museum is popular with kids of all ages, myself included. On special days throughout the year, the city opens all of its museums up for free, attracting crowds from all over the State. February 1st, 2020 was just a few short months ago, but it seems like several lifetimes ago now.

Pros & Cons of Living & Working in Hostels
Sometimes things backfire on you when you least expect it. And for me, it was definitely unexpected, but at the same time, awesome that I found out about this. If there's anything I regret about this, it's that I wish I took the chance sooner. Let me give you some more information on what I'm talking about in case the title just doesn't do it for you.

Tales of a Hitchhiker
I’ve only hitchhiked a handful of times in my life. Growing up in the UK you never come across it, and when you do the stories usually involve a murder or sexual assault or something to that effect. Over-the-top fanaticism no-doubt, it does happen from time to time. The only time I’ve consistently hitchhiked was when I was in New Zealand, in fact, rather proudly I can say that I hitchhiked from Auckland to Queenstown, from the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South Island. In this month long trip, I spent money on transport only once, on the ferry between the two islands.

The Magic of Puerto Rico
This was my third vacation to the magnificent island of Puerto Rico. I hadn’t been there in over 15 years, but always remembered the culture that made this island so very special to me. I had visited many islands but always felt Puerto Rico in my heart. It wasn’t just about sand and blue water, but it has so much more to offer. Puerto Rico has a flavor that never leaves you. Full of culture and beauty, Puerto Rico is an island to be discovered. The people, the food, the music and the history are unmatched anywhere.
